tried other day to drain system to fill it up with fresh coolant...started by trying to take off the bottom hose on the rad..took out the clip..and hose is stuck solid..would`not budge..does it come out ?

ended up just taking expansion tank out and draining as much as i could that way..which was bout 2 1/2 litres i reckon..how much does it hold ?

hi,depends on the age of the car, it does come off .but as the radiator stub pipe is ridged it takes some persuasion to remove it.try prising the pipe off by wedging a flat blade screwdriver between the pipe end and the radiator body, also make sure the clip is well back from original position to make moving pipe easier

Tip the car upside down or run a hosepipe through the reservoir to flush out the system.

Does the radiator not have a drain plug?

You should get about 7 litres of fluid out, if you only took 2.5 your not doing it right, you need to unscrew the bleed valve behind the engine (from header) radiator tap, and release hoses if you can. Worked for me, but remember to close everything back up after you have refilled and bled.

there is a bleed 'tap' on the nearside bottom of the radiator. open up that along with the bleed screws and it will drain from the bottom of the radiator. this is the best way as you are draining from the lowest point in the system therefore removing all of the water. and that hose does come out just needs a lot of persuasion

You won't get all the water out because the water in the block is lower than the exit point at the thermostat housing. You will succeed in removing all the water from the radiator. This is why the system needs to be flushed from the reservoir through to the radiator.
