When bleeding the brakes am I best to do it with the engine running or with it not?

Replaced a rear axle (drums) and could not get fluid to come thro when bleeding
Tried and tried but nothing.........

then used an EZE Bleeder.........job done in minutes
Can't praise this product enough

Also what about ABS? Anything to bear in-mind about that when bleeding.

I have a Sealy pressure-bleeding container with a hand-pump and gauge..

I use the old fashion method of gettin sum 1 to press the pedal while I open the nipple. All done now, breaks feel alot firmer.

I'd rather find a fault with my master cylinder seals in the workshop, than the first time I need to do an emergency stop! yes, its possible to damage the seals but if you're gentle, and only go about 70% of the way with the pedal, you should be fine. Also, a one-way valve on a tube clipped over the bleed nipple makes it a one man job, and much quicker.

Much as I hate to admit it I'm with BSI on this.
You can stress it, not find-out immediately in the garage, then later have it clap-out at the worst possible moment.

If you're paranoid about the seals going, you can move the brake pedal through the normal amount of movement you'd normally use, at the normal speed. Even if the worst happens, master cylinders have secondary seals and 2 circuits.

Its not that, on here I wouldnt trust 75% of the people to bleed brakes the old fashioned way without cocking it up, remember the typical 206 owner we get on here these days Wink

I have allways used this method and never had a problem. I never press the pedal all the way to the flool. Brakes feel better now. Changing discs and pads next month.

Ive never had a problem bleeding brakes the old way BUT there is plenty of people on here I wouldnt trust not to make a complete balls up of the operation using the pedal pumping bleeding method.
