the 2.0 hdis are known common fault for bottom pulley (crankshaft pulley) they make loud annoying ticking noise when there going i had one and had pulley done bout 3 times .
Im not sure if same on 1.4 hdi tho ,
but would say crankshaft pulley probably.

ok then yeah must be the crankshaft pulley , not too expensive to get sorted but best to do it before it goes .

does the noise lessen/go away when you apply some revs?

had a similar noise on mine and it was the pulley on the alternator, was very bad at idle.
