Can this happen with the aux belt?

I thought it was the cam belt that casues damage if it goes.

But ye new belt too.

Yeah if it jams the bottom crank pulley

Which recently happened to a 2004 VW Passat at work. Destroyed the engine.

Those noises could also be from harmonic balancer (crank pulley) or the cambelt pulleys or cambelt itself if shredding. Just be sure you have the right culprit.
