Hey,
I have a smallish problem with my gear box. My dad topped the gear box oil. Which was great, but when i drove my car the changing the gear wasn't smooth as before, and it felt quite knotty. I was wondering why this could be?
Also i have had a new 'leg' put in, not sure if that's the right term as my car made a clunking noise when i turned.

Did you use the correct oil grade? Chances are it should be a 75W80. Anything else results in a notchy gearchange.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

Get the correct gearbox oil from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer, its cheap enough.

These old stone age gearboxes hate fancy oils.

Hi,
i had the 75W90 put in, but on the bottle it said that it was suitable for a 75W80. Got my dad to re check it, he said there was too much oil in. Will have to drive it and see how it is now.

So the oil was just squirted in the top via the breather & NOT topped up via the gearbox filler / level bung then?

Eventhough some of the oil was removed it still feels knotty..
Will just have deal with it. Confused

I've yet to find the filler/level on two Pug gearboxes .. one in the 206CC (2.0i) and a spare 1.4 HDi box I bought but didn't use in the end.

Neither seem to have a filler, unlike the box in the 1.4 HDi that has this on the end behind the inner wing cover (the smaller one just forward of the drive shaft).

I'd like to replace the CC's gearbox oil as this car hasn't had a lot of TLC in the past judging by the state of the pads, discs, etc.

Anyone point me in the right direction?!?

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Ahhh .... that's why I've not spotted it ... doesn't look like a filler plug does it?!?

as it has mention before use the 75w/80 oil.

those synchro don't like 75w/90 oil, too thick for them to work with.

I put in there 75W90 and it was a nightmare with my badly treated gearbox.

I then got the proper stuff from Pug (Total 75W80) and it was like I changed gearbox.
