I have a 206 GTI 138 W Reg 2000 which needs a new rear axle and i cannot for the life of me determine if it has ABS or not !!

I see a shiney metal thing below bonnet infront of headlights that looks like an ABS module, but i see no ABS light come on when ignition is on and i see no ABS wire connecting to the brakes themselves ? How can i tell ? Rolling Eyes

Most likely the bulb in the cluster has blown or more likely been removed to hide a fault Wink

Check / replace the instrument cluster bulb for the ABS.

Also check your rear axle for a black rubber like cable about 30cm long coming from the back of each disc to a blue plug at each side. Then you will know if the axle is an ABS one.

I chopped mine off as my car doesn't have the safety feature to plug into.

Yeah, Thanks for the help i see 2 black cables on the bake caliper but they look Hydraulic but i haven't looked closely. As far as bulbs are concerned all my lights work properly so why would this effect the ABS but i do agree i do need a new Instrument cluster (problems).

If i get a Rear Axle with ABS does that mean i could just chop the wires off and still use it ?

Thanks

Cool

GTI needs the ABS to work else it will fail the mot test so no you cant chop the abs sensors off Wink

ABS warning light on the instrument cluster should come on at the pre start warning bulb check & go off after a few seconds after testing the system & finding eveything is ok.

Pop the cluster out & check / replace the bulb for the abs lamp.
