I replaced my fuel level sender yesterday as there was a crack on the top of the unit. The gauge seemed to come on at the same level that the old one was at so I thought it was fine. The tank level was bellow quarter when I changed it so I put in £40 of diesel last night but the gauge did not rise it just keeps going down. Any ideas? I have tried BSI reeboot but no joy. Cheers

Was the new one actually new or second hand?

Have you taken the sender out of the tank and moved the float by hand to see if the gauge moves?

I have checked contacts at sender end but dont know about anywhere else.

Yes I had the sender out but gauge did not move but the ohms were changing correctly at the sender.

Might have broken a connection when you were taking it out?

Found the problem! One of the wires had broken inside its rubber coating just as it comes through the body to the sender unit. It was covered by a small cable tie. Thanks for all the suggestions.
