Trying to debate whether to sell my gti because of the following issues

abs sensor needs replacing
coolant leak, believe to be from water pump
knocking noise from lower front left wheel
idle valve control needs replacing

now I was going to sell the pug with the above issues minus the abs problem (was ok until monday) but because I know I won't get the asking price if I do or even get my money back if I was to sort them out I can't decide what to do. It would take me even longer to save up for the 180 even if they do go for around 2k now. Apart from the issues my 206 runs really well and I still love it and how it looks plus my gf didn't believe me that the car is nearly 13yrs old lol bonus Very Happy

for those who might have forgotten what my pug looks like

It seems you can barely afford to run a GTi, and cant even save up for a 180!

So how are you going to afford to buy and then run a 180 Confused

I can afford to run a gti mate and have done for the last 4 years, I managed to run a unreliable saxo vts for 3 years before that, it's the fact that I know to sort the issues out mentioned above it won't be cheap but have money put back meant for the purchase of the 180 to use and not every issue needs to be done at once, I just don't think it's fair if I leave them for the new owner

Even if she did she wouldn't know what it meant anyway, she don't drive so cars don't take any interest in her lol

would it be worth getting a quote on all the repair work first, or at least talking to a local garage to get an actual cost to fix? then u can decide to sell and let the buyer know how much it will cost to repair and they can then knock you down on cost of car or decide to leave it? only a suggestion as that is wot i would do.
Get in, sit down, shut up \'n\' hold on!!

ABS sensor won't break the bank and although access to the plugs at the front is tight it's a relatively simple DIY job.

Coolant leak might just be the O ring seal on the coolant pipe going into the back of the water pump. Seals cost pennies and you just need some coolant and a new thermostat housing gasket.

Knocking noise could just be a drop link. Less than £20 to fix. Obviously could be a top mount or wishbone bush but it's simple stuff.

ICV is easy to fix especially when I have a spare that's yours delivered for £15.

appreciate what your saying Andy, the only downside to that is I may only get less than a grand if I sell and if thats the case it will take a long time to save up for the 180, at least 12 months for a perfect example

Why dont you strip and sell it? you could probably get £900 for the car, and around £250+ for the wheels, £40 for spoiler, £40 for arches, £40 for grill, £70 for angel eyes, £50 for the rear lights! You could get £1500 or more depending on your prices.

Realistically it is an old car, regardless of how it looks or how much you've spent on it. Some people may offer less because its not standard.

I paid £1600 for my 2001 2.0 cc (50,000 miles) thats lowered, with morrettes, gt bumpers, arches, pioneer dolphin cd player, plenty of MOT and nothing wrong with it. The bodywork was in mint condition not even a stone chip or a scratch. The seller wanted over 2k for it but no one was interested.
I got my dad, sister and her bf to ring offering silly prices so when i offered £1600 it was the best offer Very Happy

I wanted to sell my Y reg 1.4 quiksilver but i would of had a grand max and to me it wasnt worth it for what i'd spent. So i decided i would keep it until it was dead and have my moneys worth. Then it got wrote off my a motorbike outside my house and i got £1500.

I don't think yours is going to de-value much in a year so save up and then sell it with a good MOT. No point selling it now for around the same price you will probably get in a year if you havent got the funds for your 180 Smile

I think its a nice looking car and fix it and keep it for another 6 months or so then get a 180 if you can afford it

I wouldn't say no to a 180 mate, i've always liked the 206 so it only seems right to upgrade to the 180, it's just so annoying that my gti has these problems, knowing that I won't get much for it and the waiting til I have the money saved up
