Hi all,

Took my car down to my local garage this morning to get it put up on a ramp since my Dad noticed that it was sounding a lot louder than when I first bought it. Naturally I just thought it would be a hole in the exhaust.

Turns out that near to the catalytic convertor the pipe has all but corroded away and there is basically a thin bit of rusted metal stopping the exhaust from falling off onto the road!

Garage quoted £276 for the new converter (don't think it's the whole exhaust system, just the converter and pipe leading to the silencer), labour and VAT.

I said ok at the time but upon investigating prices when I got home it appears as though this is a complete and utter rip off. I'm due to drop my car off on Monday but am now thinking of phoning up and cancelling.

I have a 206 2.0 HDI Dturbo, reg number DU51 KWD. From what I can tell a new 2 part cat (cat + pipe) costs around £90 + VAT. At his price that means he's basically putting a 50% markup on the part and then charging like 3 hours labour!

Can anyone tell me what they think sourcing a new cat converter and fitting should cost?

i had my 1.4 i cat changed in September for 140 fitted, phoned about 10 in the morning, drove in about 1 and out around twenty minuites later.

As its a Hdi, just get a garage to make you a de-cat pipe, you dont need a cat on a derv.
