Well, bought a Peugeot 206 last weekend. The car is in a bit of a mess so this project thread is going to be what im doing to clean it up

Car Details: Preplex 206 gti 138 in Moonstone Blue

Faults with the car: When i bought the car i was told it had failed its MOT on its torsion bar but in closer inspection it got worse!!!

The rear drivers side quarter has been replaced at some point in the cars past... not replaced very well as along the sill where it was welded there are rust bubbles under the paint. The sill itself has split and rusted!

There is a hole in the sill which will need sorted out

After taking the car out a drive it was clear that the torsion bar was absolutely hanging and every time you turned left the car tried to kill you!! So the torsion bar was ripped off of the GTi and one was taken off a 1.1 206 that my mate was scrapping and put onto it. Then came Swapping the Drum brakes to the GTi disk brakes with the help of Stuart (Cammson)

Drum brakes on the 1.1 beam

GTi beam being taken apart

Hub stripped and swapping over the stub axles

Gave them both a clean up with some brake cleaner and a rub with 800 grit.

Fitting the GTi stub axle

Brake lines had to be swapped to reach the caliper

Caliper to be fitted

Got both sides finished with the disk brakes on!

But we had a problem with the brake line joint at the torsion bar! While we were trying to sort it out all of the brake fluid p**sed out of the pipe and emptied the header tank! so after we put the brakes back together and filled it back up there was no brakes, we were going to try bleed the front brakes but the nipples looked a bit too iffy to try move when we have none spare! but think were going to look into this at the weekend!

With the torsion bar replaced i went to the front of the car and found that both outer cv boots were a bit....

Split!

there's also paint missing off the wings and sills!

So the car is kinda HANGING! one of the wishbone bushes is away so im going to order a couple of these, anyone know of a good cheap place to get a set?

Put all the wheels on and took the car out a drive... the car didnt have the best of brakes but they kindof worked! Left the backbox off the car and heres how it sounds

Thread will be updated when there's more progress!

Thanks for popping in Smile

A lot of work to do there. Do not put cheap bushes on they will not last 6 months. I know this from experience and others will tell you the same. Get the genuine ones, bit expensive but will be good for 3 years to it works out.

Nice to see some work being done on the oily bits, shame about the rust though.

Best of luck with it! As Edward says, its nice to see someone repairing one instead of breaking it for a change! Mine is also missing paint off the sills at the front like yours Sad Its on the never ending list of things to do! Laughing

Are the 1.1 torsion bars not thinner than the 138 bars? The ride might be a bit bouncy!

IIRC its the 180 and SW bars that are bigger.

I know what you mean Howey its a shame to see a nice car being stripped over something that wouldn't be that hard to fix.

Im not sure about the torsion bars on 206's but I know they are different on 306's. Wouldnt be hard to change them. this is really just to get it through its MOT then il source another 206GTi torsion bar and replace bearings if needed. Anyone selling a decent torsion bar relatively close to where i am?
