I have had my headunit stolen without the face panel which I still possess so I don't think it really matters what they see, these junkies break in and just find what they can get... before installing a new headunit it needs to be protected, I have had a look around aftermarket alarms some are cheap but look complex to install with soo much wiring I have no idea if this connects to the electronic parts of the car or how the system works... then I was thinking if there is some sort of single din lockable cover with key?? Or maybe cutting the door locks half way so that they cannot be pulled out.. these bad ideas?

You could put one of these in your car to protect your head unit-

There's not much you can really do to stop scum breaking into your car, & even if they don't get the head unit out they'll do damage trying Sad

Does your head unit have the little nut in the centre at the back? you could always fasten a piece of metal strapping to that after you have fitted it so it cannot be pulled forward out of the hole. You would have to reach up behind the dash to do it, and you would be working blind.

If you do secure it, they might just trash the car trying to get the HU out.

Do what my other uncle used to do in his van.

Remove the head unit every time you leave the car Laughing

You really don't seem to have much luck with cars, on here.

Refit the standard head unit, if you need to listen to MP3s etc then get one of them FM adapters or something.

When the wifes stereo got nicked i fitted one in good and solid no getting it out without half the dash being removed. The pikey w**kers just destroyed it the next week when they couldnt get it out. Moved house soon after that car was constantly being broken into.

So what about cutting these off, that way they won't be able to gain entry...

Or is there something I haven't thought about, Embarassed will it affect central locking?

A 206 is simple enough to open even with the lock pins removed.

A pro can open a deadlocked 206 in under a minute without any damage Laughing

Removing the lock buttons = pointless
Removing the door barrels = pointless

A pro wouldnt even bother picking / attacking the lock barrel as there's far easier ways to open the door Wink

Met police mentioned Peugeot is the biggest victim of motor theft crime and to those without alarms are targeted most, especially in my area unfortunately I fit into this category...

Why is it pointless to cut the locks then? knowing that my car has been broken into by using w/e to pull up the locks.. besides there will be hardly any 'pros' unless you are unlucky.. my point is if I cut the locks surely the chances of another break is far more unlikely than without them being cutted? or am I going to wait for someone to say "get another car" Smile

even you weld up the door it will make no difference.
