Yes the lead is a cheap Chinese clone but it will connect to my wife's Alfa 159 (9/10 times) and to my son's Alfa 147 (8/10 times.) However it will not connect to my daughter's 1.4 8V 206 "W" reg.

I have set the bit rate and port number correctly (it wouldn't connect to the other cars if that was wrong) and also unplugged and reconnected to the car about 15 times hoping that would clean any dirty pins.

I am now lost for a way forward.

Is it just that the Peugeot is more fussy of cloned leads than the Alfa or should I be looking for damaged plug or disconnected wires on the car interface.

EasyOBDII will get past the "Vehicle data bus" but fails at the "vehicle rsponce."

ScanMaster-ELM will find the port, report the battery voltage but reports "protocol unknown" and then reports "please wait for connection" then shows "no connection to ECU"

OBD2Spy gets to "M1: requesting supported PIDs" and then gives lots of "Port Closed" messages before a popup box with a runtime error.

Lee: I thought that the engine ECU was OBD2. Shouldn't OBD2Spy or ScanMaster have connected? My wife's 159 is definitely OBD2 and that connects with both ScanMaster and OBD2Spy.

Does this make it PP only then? It does have an OBD ELM shaped connector. Is there other software that will work with the ELM327. My Alfas will connect with both KKL and ELM using different software.

Ouch. Well I'm not paying that much just to find out if it is gauge, sensor or thermostat that is the cause of 70 degree water temp reading.

Especially as the heater gets really hot and the dash temp gauge needle is rock solid on 70 even when stationary for 30 mins. That must be either gauge or sensor. My money is now on sensor.

If it's sending a low temp signal then it's probably also running a bit rich (although plugs were a pretty good colour) so I will change the sensor.

I know they do. Didn't know his was petrol. Just knew it wasn't EOBD from the title.
