I have now managed to get my hands on an original head unit, with aerial booster and the cd changer controls/FM modulator. I haven't got these yet but these are pics i've been sent. Should clean up a treat with a bit of Brian care Cool

This is how the cd changer controls are mounted, just to the right of the steering wheel. But i suppose you could mount it anywhere, but i think here would be best to keep the centre console looking fresh.

I have also managed to source a cd changer to go with this with FM transmitter adapter Smile

I haven't got pics of this yet though! Smile

For those not in the know these were an optional extra on the goodwood so that a casette only had unit could take on board the necessary controls of the cd changer and this is just like your average FM transmitter for an ipod! Only that it has extra buttons and is a cd changer that you're getting the music from! Old skool technology...got to love it! i hear the quality is pretty fahooking awful but this is a small price to pay for retro coolness. Laughing

Also had delivered to me a set of rear inserts so i can wrap them in chrome vinyl too. These are only available in chrome for around £22 per side, i got both for £25 delivered which will do nicely. I will just buy the front two from a dealer because they're only £17-ish per side and i can't be arsed waiting! £20 saved here is £20 saved though all the same! Very Happy

My supercool stuffs have arrived Cool

This actually looks pretty damn straight forward to fit. It's just a shame the control unit itself is hard wired to the cable from the aerial booster box/general box of tricks which will make it it a little harder to install neatly.

Anyway, I have one question...behold...tiz a bus input Confused

So does this mean that i could just plug in EITHER a cd changer FM transmitter to a cd changer when i get one (still waiting on people getting back to me :-\ ) or i could run a bus lead into the box of tricks and it'll play that way too? Very Happy

I'm guessing that the wireless method will be much cooler for showing off purposes though at pugfest L-) and it would save me re-routing another cable unless the present pioneer one is a 13 pin bus cable too which would allow me to chop and change \:D/

Player is pretty clean apart from one worn button and the corner of the display.

This however is in much better condition than i thought it was gonna be. It looked scratched at the top on the pics above but it's actually spotless.

haha, cheers Jon. I like it myself, others (G!) think i'm mad for removing the old skool pioneer stuff. But i think it'll put that in the Miami.

I was all alone tonight and found myself fiddling with the chrome strips again as I wasn't happy with one of the side strips. It had a crease in it which needed rectified by err...starting again! I also did the last side strip which turned out really well...again it was the second time round L-) ~x(

I then faced my fear and tried to fathom out how I was going to tackle the corners of the bumper mouldings as i have a set in the post coming to me soon for wrapping! Smile

So in the name of tradition, buggering it up the first time was definitely the way forward! Thumbs Up

It's actually going to be a lot harder than i first thought as the radius of the top half of the strip is different to the bottom which is much tighter, thus creases and pleats a plenty are a formality.

I then remembered that you can make little cuts all the way along a curve and fold each little flap round so you get no pleats/creases. BUT! I still have a minor dilemma as I can't figure out how much of the edges of the chrome strips you can see when fitted to the car. I'm hoping part of the plastic trim actually hides the edges as there are little dots all the way round the bend which is the end of the cutting marks. I'm going to try again with another scrap piece of vinyl and see how i get on. The plan would be to try and see if i can get away with stopping the incision just short of where the edge of the trim starts. But i fear i will still get little creases instead.

All good fun eh...On the left hand side of the curve, the cuts were made much closer together and i started to cut less close to the edge of the trim.

A few other bits arrived today Very Happy

The custom/original plate idea is what I had planned to get redone all along but when i seen how good Andy's ones were I got the guy's details off him. Safe to say i'm impressed once again Smile

Old plates:

Can't get the code at the bottom in because it would have been chopped off, it's not wildly important anyway so to be on the safe side i just didn't include it. The spacing is slightly different now too because there's been new rules for that in the past 17yrs so it's not quite aligned for that reason too.

I also got plenty of cleaning goodies but I won't bore you all with that quite yet =)) Here's the main one that arrived today though to restore the colour onto my driver's bolster and to generally protect the leather. It looks to be good stuff B-)

I tried again with the corner with heat etc but it didn't make it much better at all.

My most recent attempt:

My problem is: the lower edge curves in giving it a narrower radius, therefore there are extra bits that have carried down from the "larger radius" at the top result in all these farking creases. Next bit will be working from the narrower bit upwards.

These just cant be half arsed as they're on full view all the time. It's every corner of the car. My next plan is to start from the bottom and work up. If that doesnt work i'm gonna buy more vinyl and use larger sheets to allow for twisting of the paper by just moving the material over a bit. I'm limiting myself to little thin strips atm and i wonder if it's hampering things.

This was meant to be simple :)) Chrome paint would be good but it would flake off the moment they're moved to put them back in, even with plastic primer. You can get a special primer that can cope with flexibilities. ie used to paint rubber! But this costs a fortune.

haha rather you than me, i was going to say maybe chrome paint but i see what you mean about flaking off. i would of thought tho doing it with a hair dryer would of worked as i watched vids on utube how to cover things with carbon fiber vinyl and that's what they used. so what toy you bringing to FCS??

The thing is as i think i've also figured out that it might not even be vinyl?! I think it's difficult to produce thin vinyl?? What i have is more of a large sticker format really. I have thought of another method but it'll cost me more pennies to experiment with the idea Sad

Needs must though.

If the Goodwood's done in time, i'll take it to FCS. No point in working on it since October and not showing it off eh lol. If it's not finished though, i'll take the GTi 180.
