i know this must be a topic touched on one to many times but in my search not really findin answers Sad

anyway the vibration happens only in the steering and not really feeling in the seat speeds between 130-160kph (80-100mph) fine before and after those speeds (police isnt too strict with speeding here in trinidad lol) but the vibration is semi violent. :/

i recently changed 2 front tyres got balanced and aligned also changed the track rods/steering ends.

would just like to know what to check as possible causes...

my front rotors are worn a bit but no wobble under braking so ruling out warped discs...(btw thinking replacing with stock bosch or brembo max dont care too much about looks only performance what are your views)

was also thinking sway bar and wishbone bushings but all the rubbers seem intact and no play to speak about.. checked rims to the naked eye seem straight and true.

btw car is a gti180... and would like to hear your views thanks

alloys seem true.. and tyres are brand new dunlops... will try the wheel swap with the rear tomorrow to verify.. but as it stands they are supposed to be balanced unless the shop did a shoddy job

I've found very few places that balance a wheel well enough to exceed 80-90 mph so id try somewhere else.....if there is anywhere else!!! Also have them check that the wheels are straight and there are no bulges in the tyre walls. Any of the above will cause wheel wobble.
This 206 IS going on a trackday despite it's every effort to stay at home in the garage!

thats the thing since they are the stock alloys without the centre hole really tough to get balanced and there are only 2 places on the island i know of that are able to do it right now.. the 2nd shop i have no idea of their location but know they exist lol

as them to redo it then.

did the weight fall off by any chances?

i did quite a few tyre change over the years but nothing of them balanced it well enough; apart from one mobile tyre fitting van lol

swapped front with the rear on the suspected side and its fine now.. will have to go have them redo it

D4NTP: any and every balancer should be able to balance a wheel to exceed these speeds. All my personal cars regularly exceed 120mph without any issues at all.

With exception of the 147GTA, 159 and three motorbikes not listed they are all history and the Morris (moggy) was history 32 years ago! Anyway the Moggy had a speedo that would flicker between 10 and 20 mph either side of the real speed. Speedos were cable driven in those days and when the cable started to fray you could see some pretty large flickering. I recall the speedo only went to 80 (but could be wrong.)
No, it would not do 120 but was pretty quick (for those days) with a bored and tuned 1275 engine producing about 95 - 100bhp and all around drum brakes made stopping very interesting. Oh and the headlight dip was a floor, foot operated switch. And wheel spinning at junctions would set the rear axle hopping off the floor as the leaf spring and shocks were completely shot. Still, it did once take 7 people in one go 20 miles to our nearest night club - that was an interesting drive! Ah memories.
Still glad I sold it as the power was many, many times too much for the suspension and brakes to cope with and I ran out of money to upgrade those.

PS: who remembers sealed beam headlights - there was a challenge when it got dark.

PPS: I did have a 1972 1.3 Escort Estate (forgot that one) and fitted a tuned 1.6 Pinto engine and box. The speedo on that only went to 90 which was optimistic with the 1.3 (power was 0 and I recall top gear ratio was 16mph per 1000 rpm) but with the 1.6 could easily be wound off the clock.

no probs.. wish there were more alfas where im from though.

got my problem completely rectified now steady and stable up to 200kph lol turns out the front wheel had a slight buckle.. got all 4 tyres rebalanced and works like a dream.

surprizing for most people is that we dont have much rust issues here very rare you would find rusted modern car

That is very true providing the wheel balancer is maintained correctly. How many back street garages bother?
