well done with the progress but i think the lights would of looked better colour coded |
Thank you for the comment and for reminding me i still need to fit the lights, i'm not 100% sure i'm going to bother fitting them now, i quite like the idea of getting some morettes since there pretty cheap for 206 (or maybe angel eyes).

If you could get me the name that would be great thanks.
Anyway i have a small update, i finally finished refurbing my wheels and settled on using just graphite grey as i couldn't decide if i liked the combination colour, pic of finished wheel (next time i refurb them i'll be sending them off for sand blasting);
Next i decided to do a quick check on my rocker cover for mayo (last time i checked it was covered) and i'm happy to report that there is none which i'm very happy with, while the rocker cover was off i decided to check to see if there was oil reaching the top of my engine properly and it all looks ok so i believe it's my tappets which need adjusting, it's driving me insane, it seems to get louder when the engines warm, i have noticed though since looking at the pic (below) that the right side of the engine seems to be darker (have some sort of build up on the last 3 arms?), other than that everything seems healthy (any other suggestions other than tappet adjustment would be helpful, i can record the idle noise on cold temp and running temp if needed);
Can you spot the difference in the pic below?
Yes i did my rocker cover in graphite grey while it was off and ordered a carbon pug badge from Galphin Auto Vinyls, i did have a pic but my computer got a virus sorry.
Next up i finally got round to washing the car after 2 months of poor weather, which gave me chance to colour code my side bumpstrips;
After this i decided to do my front bumper along with fit my alloys which is where i've hit a snag, the guys who did my head gasket have overtightened my drivers side wheel bolts meaning i can't get them off, there so tight infact it's bent (unsurprisingly) the standard peugeot wheel brace and somehow managed to crack the socket of my other wheel brace, in the end i gave up and am now waiting on an impact wrench to arrive, a cheap RAC 12v one, meant to have 350nm torque so should do the job, if not it's back to the garage to complain (thats got to be a first? you did my bolts to tight?).
Thats all for now i should hopefully be able to do the rest of the bumpstrips and fit my alloys this weekend or next, and in a few weeks time it's the easter holidays so i get 3 weeks off uni meaning i can finally go about lowering my car 35mm.

Thanks, your best starting with the middle part of dash, the two side vents, and the handle surrounds then if you feel more won't look to out there do something like the dials.
Small update again
i can finally say Victory is Mine! I have finally got that drivers wheel off which means the alloys are now on and i quite like the look of them on the car now. The only problem now is it appears my tracking may be out as after putting the new wheels on i notice my cars pulling slightly to the right.
Now for some sad news, i've come across the first piece of rust on the car, when putting my alloys on i noticed this...
So i'll be fixing this tomorrow, and then i think during my holiday and im going to be painting the underside of my boot to make sure i don't have a big eroding whole in my boot anytime soon.

Its just surface rust/corrosion where the paint has come off, i really wouldnt worry
Just get touch it up by hand (flat down the rust, primer then colour?) then put some SP arches to take the stones till you can have it done properly?

i was abit unsure when i was bidding on them, but they do look quite nice.

Didn't you know? some magically float, it's why the standard suspension acts like a boat when going round tight corners at speed
So anyway i'm splitting this post into 2, maintenance and mods since i've been busy the last few days and will be for a further few.
Maintenance
So first up i finally got round to sorting out my rusty wheel arch, using my dremel and a paint pot of colour coded paint from paints4u, the end result is;
Not bad for 5 mins work, while the back wheels were off i decided to give my rusty drums a lick of paint until i decide to attempt sticking a disc beam on (need to sort my front brakes before that though), so rusty drums (there pretty bad);
sanded and painted;
Next up, coolant change not much to say about this other than Holts speed flush seemed to have reacted with my coolant/head gasket brown liquid, my coolant was originally orange then turned brown...and after using holts speedflush it turned bright green...
I'm pretty sure it's my radiator which keeps turning my coolant brown so i removed it, flushed it with water for an hour. if it does it again i think i'll buy a new one, there were alot of feathers on the front of my radiator which is abit weird considering the aircon radiator is in front...my car must have eaten alot of birds in it's life...
Final maintenance post is the valves, i adjusted them this morning which went fine, some of the inlet valves were quite far out, turned engine over by hand, again fine, started car to find it's a little quieter and i seem to have some more power in the lower range than what i did before Anyone got any ideas what else can cause tapping noise in time with the engine?
Mods
Finally the good stuff! First mod of the day is more leather! I definatly prefer this wheel to my original one, it just seems to be better fit in my hands. It's more or less like new which is great considering it's from a 99' GTi;
Second mod of the day is not complete, i managed to get a hold of a 1.6 throttle, just need to track down a cheap inlet to match. It came with all the sensors and plugs for it, it's abit grimey but i cleaned it up while i was cleaning up my 1.4's (surprisingly clean considering the last time i cleaned it was before the head gasket failure);
To Do
So my to do list for tomorrow is as follows;
- Lower front suspension and decide if the back needs doing, i think the back is lower than the front anyway, but i'll know if it needs doing or not tomorrow
- Spray front and back bumpstrips
- Change Oil and reset service clock (already done air filter, sparks, etc. today)
- Trial fit front caliper to see if alloys fit over it.
Another update tomorrow, cya

if you lower the front you WILL need to lower the back, and you need to lower both i'd say.
Good little project though man

Well i was going to disagree with you since my drivers side is sitting quite low after fitting my new shocks (old ones knackered, pushed in, 3 hours later still in same position), but it appears my rear axle has gone.
Went down to visit a friend in Rushdon and car felt abit weird but i put it down to the horrible M42 because once on the M6 it was fine, but when i got home i decided to retighten my shocks just to make sure there tight enough, went fine. Just took it out now to find there's an on/off rumbling/thud coming from the rear whenever i'm not on smooth roads (can be heard over road noise). It seems that i have camber on the passenger side wheel, it's more noticable than on the drivers side, the drivers is pretty much as you would expect it, pics below;
Drivers (the one which is fine);
Passenger;
I'm just hoping this will last another few thousand mile, i can't afford to replace it untill the 16th.
As for the rest of the progress i said would be up Saturday well i hit another brick wall, the locking slot on the drivers side drop link ground off as soon as i went to loosen it so i've had to order new ones (there knackered anyway, there bent). The only other progress i've had is i got the rear bumper off to spray and the final result is below;
I'm now toying with the idea that it might be better for me to buy a written off 206 (front end damage), getting the rear axle off of that and just selling the rest of the parts on ebay, think it would probably work out cheaper that way, i'd only have to invest in a 2nd pair of axle stands.

I really like the inside of the car. The colour coding works so well. Not too sure about the alloys mind....

Thank you, the alloys are abit marmite i come out some mornings thinking there great looking then other times i think they don't quite suit the car.
But now for an announcement, the cars up for sale as i have just bought this beauty;
A 307 Rapier 2L HDi, my mate brought one the other week and i went out in it and i love the power these have, mainly when the turbo kicks in . It has plenty of good points a few small bad points;
Good points:
* Engine is quiet (and no sign of the head gasket going thank god)
* Gearbox is nice and smooth (a peugeot box which actually goes into reverse first time and every time, it's a miracle!)
* Bodywork in good condition, no dents.
* No rust
* Engine Bay spotless
* Brake discs all round instead of s**t drums
* It's hasn't been molested, everythings standard
* £4-500's worth of discs, pads and tyres with only 5 mile on them when i brought it
Bad Points:
* Headlights cloudy on the top
* Radio Reception in some places is terrible compared to the 206
* Engine cover clips have disappeared.. there were 3 of the 4 on when i bought it, now there's only one....
* Going off some rough estimates i have only managed to get 50mpg, considering the hike in my insurance and the extra 4-7p a litre, it really wasn't worth it considering my 1.4 gets 43-44.
Mod Ideas?
* Fit a bigger intercooler (looking at haynes it has a small one somewhere on the left hand side)
* Remap
* Gun Metal Grey/Black the alloys and badges
* Maybe lower it, it's fairly low as it is though
* Change radio to cd changer version or go double din radio (don't really want to lose the heads up display and wheel controls
* Changes bodywork for facelift verion that came about in 05-06?
If anyone's interested in the 206 your free to have a look, test drives are probably going to be a no since i will have to SORN it if it doesn't go soon (may drive round the block but that would be all), the only bad part about the car is 2 bad scratches, engines quite tappety (runs fine, and pulls fine), the rocker cover needs resealing and it does have a knocking noise at low speed could be either;
* N/S/F lower arm front bush flared (noted by kwik fit before i brought the car, passed MOT January without this being noted)
* Droplinks (have new ones sitting in the garage, i will supply them with the car)
* Exhaust hitting the underside of the body

Is it the 110bhp one then? Sure it's not the 90bhp?
Beware of the long list of electrical faults
Beware of the water that leaks in through the bulk head and fries the BSI
Beware of the prone to failing ABS units that have been known to set on fire.
But other than that, happy motoring!
