Hello guys! Just been given a 1.1 206 zest 3 and I've been unfortunate enough to experience a few problems.
Firstly I realised that the car was telling me there was an oil malfunction, on inspection the dipstick indicated there was a severe lack of oil. So I put a litre of oil in and now everything according to the car is ok. However, as I was doing this i dipped beam on for about ten mins at the least and now the battery seems to be flat! Also a 'bing' noise sounded and the clock re set itself. Does anyone know what's going on?
There's one more problem. When ticking over and the clutch is engaged there is a whirring noise however when the clutch is dipped it goes away? Why is this?!
Any help would be great!!

About the oil,get an oil change,with filters and make sure it 10W40,and see how things goes.
You need a new battery,as the bing sound is a warning that your battery is almost dead,and that is the reason why the clock reset itself everytime you start the car.
About the clutch noise,it mean one of the 2 things:
1-you clutch is about to be dead.
2-your transmission is faulty,how many miles on the clock??

Cheers for the quick response. Only 42000 miles, is a clutch thrust bearing a cheap/easy job? If it is would it be easiest to investigate that before investigating the transmission?

The clutch noise could also be low gearbox oil, I've had this before and I've now got it again, it's my own fault though from losing oil while swapping out my suspension a few times lol
The reason I'm saying it could be that is the noise goes as the clutch is pressed down, disconnecting the transmission, then comes back as the clutch is re-engaged. Although it still could be one of the clutch bearings, but I'd fire at the transmission oil level first.
Does the clutch noise go after 5-10 mins driving / when the car has got upto temperature?

it will have to be the thrust bearing, very common problem these days.
better to change the clutch kit instead of just the bearing; same amount of work involved.
the bearing itself cost about 20 quid i guess?

I thought you heard the thrust bearing louder while the clutch was disengaged / pressed down? Not the other way around?

I thought you heard the thrust bearing louder while the clutch was disengaged / pressed down? Not the other way around? |

So it's more then likely to be the transmission oil? If so how do I check the level of it?

Now here's the problem with the 1.1's MA Gearbox, there's no fill level check unfortunatly, not one that I've ever found anyway, and trust me I've checked lol..
The manual says the level it should have in, however it doesnt say how to check it, and it also says it should never need changing lol (See it's extreemly helpful NAWTTTTT)
So to cut my post short, I honestly don't know, sorry, I usually go buy how much I lose each time my drive shaft pops out when I'm changing the suspension, but obviously with you only just getting the car you don't know if any has ever actually come out, or even more to the point, how much..
I'm sure they'll be a way to check/test how much is in there, I just havent figured it out just yet, someone else may know and hopefully post up how to. God damn I wish I had a GTi box, they have a nice fill level plug on the passenger side

well in that case, drop the oil and then filled it up.
gear oil is around 8 quid for 2L (you need 2L for normal drain gear oil change)

Plannage, if only I could be bothered trying to get my car jacked up and do it (It's not an easy task jacking the car anymore lol)
