Does fitting a head unit mean the clock by the hazard light button doesnt work. It doesnt seem to work like it used to, the minutes will constantly stay on the same number. Is this normal with fitting a radio ?

Have you fitted a genuine unit or an after market HU?
Hopefully you disconnected the battery before swapping the units over. Try soft booting the BSI to see if it solves the problem.

Its an after market unit, no the battery wasnt disconnected(a mate did it last night), is it easy to soft boot the BSI

It tells you in the beginners guide you posted on last light.
Edit: From reading further up that thread (Tue Jan 31, 2012 4:43 pm), you already knew that you had to disconnect the battery, yet you let your mate do the job his way. Should take the advice from people on here. I hope you haven't done too much damage.

Yes i know about the thread but he's replaced head units before so i asked him to do it, i was more concerned about f*cking it up even though id read what to do.
Id mentioned to him what it advised to do on here re the battery adn he said "oh thats just the suggested way of doing it".
Could i still do a soft boot thing ?

Try the soft reboot, if that doesn't work ask your mate who is obviously an expert what he thinks.
People on here give advice because they know what they are doing, obviously your mate doesn't.
First rule before doing anything electrical on a 206 is disconnect the battery. People have even screwed the BSI changing a bulb. Second rule is if you don't know what you're doing, leave well alone.

Well clearly i have made an error and shouldn't have asked him to fit it ( he's not fitted radios to peugeot cars before but hes fitted radios to rovers that were older cars so maybe you dont need to do the soft boot ) but whats done is done.
Yes im aware that people on here give advice because they know what they're doing(of which im grateful) but unfortunately i only know of 2 people who know about cars and 1 isnt that easy to get hold of so i asked my mate to fit it.
Ill try the soft reboot maybe tomorrow as it seems easy to do.
On the instructions for the soft boot what would i do at this stage "Disconnect the clamps on the battery, and change/do electrics/whatever you are planning to do. "
would i turn the radio off or just move onto the next step.

Just need to know the answer to this

Just disconnect the battery, wait for about 10 mins and then reconnect. You don't need to touch anything else.
Just to satisfy yourself, you could disconnect the battery, disconnect and reconnect the radio and then reconnect the battery. Probably won't achieve anything but for piece of mind to make sure the radio is connected properly, no wire trapped and your mate hasn't cut any more corners when he did the job.

Thanks, yes ive learnt my lesson to not ask him to do anything again, next time ill ask my other mate who is a qualified mechainc

Thanks for your help macca, i disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, reconnected it and checked the radio was fine and the clock display is fine as it had reset itself obviously.
