When I shift the gearstick to 1 and 2 it is very stiff when the engine is cold, when it warms up it improves and changes smoothly with no problems. I considered the linkage but it changes smoothly when engine is off and I'm sure this happened as soon as I got my clutch changed or it could be the cold weather, whether so it recently just became erratic and other gears are fine. I think I should also mention when gear is selected and I push down on the clutch to the end there is a audible "click" or similar sound.
Why is a good car got a poorly designed gearbox anyway? My mother owned a 206 had her gearbox broke and a mate had to get his replaced 3 times! Now it struggles to shift into gear 1 and 2 only when the engine is not warmed up, could it be the new clutch/plate/bearing? I have had the exact same problem on my old 1999 206 LX.
I had this problem, changed the clutch and gearbox as the previous gearbox gave way and I notices some notchyness but I put it down to the second hand box but it was getting worse between 1st to 2nd shift change and stiffer to get into first at a standstill . I changed the gearbox oil to peugeot reccomended and bled the clutch properlyeven though it self adjusts and was much better instantly. I think it is the syncros in the gearbox that are rubbish in an 'older gearboxes' which causes this issue. I would also check the gear linkages are straight and the joints are in good condition.
