If you are refitting the arm with the torsion bar still attached to the arm then tap arm on untill you see the torsion bar going into its hole under the car on the opposite side. Then hold the arm at your measured height and keep tapping gently while moving the arm slightly up and down to engage the splines. Once engaged check measurement.

If you are going to completely remove torsion bar from the arm .then it's outside in for the hit. (if the torsion bar is stuck on the trailing arm and off the car)

thnks i looked at those youtube before attempting job and thought it was easy but for the life of me i cant get that torsion bar to engage on passenger side , luckily enough i got the arm back off without breaking bearing { again } what else can i do , i have asked this question before but are you sure the torsion bar comes out from the inside { drivers rear } it does on the rear passenger but i don't know . does the bar go through the arm completely on the drivers side ??

any advice would be welcome iff only to say you muppet .

one more thing i have been trying it with only 1 side jacked up , would this make a diff ?? would it be easier if i had the back end on axle stands ??

This may seem a dumb question but did you remove the screw and washer from the passenger side of the torsion bar or are they still on the end. If you didn't then are they stuck in the hole or on the end of the bar?

Have you tried cleaning the passenger side torsion bar threads and hole threads. Look to see if you have a damaged thread.

I have seen a video where torsion bar for the drivers side pulls out of the drivers side (in to out) but this was for lowering.

It doesn't answer the question of why the torsion bar won't engage on the spindles that side though and even if you get the torsion bar completely separated it's still going to have to engage on those spindles in the passenger side.

yes i removed the screw but the washer is still there, washer doesnt stop the torsion bar going back in does it ?? i would rather get the arm on without dam bearings again and think about the bar later .

remove the washer and get the bars out.

the arm is very easy to put back on without the torsion bar, and you should be able to use the anti-roll bar to lock the arm in place and put the torsion bar back.

and once the torsion bar threads is clean and grease it is very easy to put it back in too

but the bar is out of the passenger side so the washer wouldnt make a diff?? stuck solid on the arm taken out . would it make a diff iff i lifted other side off the floor so there is more play for the torsion bar ??

I'm wondering if the fact that you only have one side jacked could be causing this as well. It didn't with mine but that's not to say you don't have a slight twist or something.

Have you checked the threads on the bar and hole?

If one side is jacked up and the antil roll bar is still in place you'll never get the arm back in place.

cheers Edward & evreyone who has contributed to my stupidity will get both sides on axle stands 2moz and try , if it is that simple i will be kicking myself & the dogs. curiosity i measured clearance with 1 side jacked up as well , { should i have ?? } what would or should be the correct method .

whoop, whoop got it on at last BUT now cant get the bolts in the torsion bar either end , yes the washer is out of the way , are these bolts esential , i will have to rethread i think . all other bolts & bits are in place .

Good news.

I think the bolts stop the torsion bar from being able to slide out under vibration. I'm sure you know how likely that is to happen. However have you wiggled the washer around and did you clean out the groove and edge of washer. (Wouldn't the end plate keep it in anyway.)

They may just need retapping but I'm not sure of the size.

i would think it will be better to put the bolts in...

it used to lock the washer in place so the torsion bar can't get loosen over time...

1 more little thing when i took the hub off the bearings and bits fell out not broke but wich way do all the bits go back in , i got everything back in but for the 1 looks like a circlip but not , where does this bit go . i have another hub/drum and cant see it in this one ..
