It was pointed out at my last service, that the engine cover mounts needed replacing, but the garage charge including labour was £46!
I looked online and unsurprisingly you can pick the bolts up for about £4 each, so thats like £30 labour, for what I can only see as a 5min job.
So why am I posting?
Well, I found 3 bolts in the engine, these were in line with the rubber mounts that were left in the cover,I removed them with a socket and replaced with the new ones I'd brought, so far so good, but the one to the right of the dipstick appears to have nowhere to screw into, has something fell off?
I'll attach pics on flikr, Engine Pics on Flikr

i did all 4 on my old car, i actually piced them up from the dealer for about 4.50 each, there positions for all 4 i cant fro the life of me remember where they all are.
but i do have a solution, take the 4th clip off, and the part under the cover so you have a hole, place the cover onto the engine (do not clip down) shine a light in the hole and see where the last one bolts to.

i'll give that a try ghosty, (tomorrow in thr light) but i've got a feeling its looking to anchor on the silver part, on the pics, which is threadless, which is why I think maybe something has shook off, like a thread of some kind.

I checked, and as suspected, the only place to put the 4th cover damper, has no thread, are there any mechanics on these forums who could let me know what threaded bit is needed.

i have a tap and die set here in swindon, that can be used to thread it again, but as you are not here it may be cheaper to go to a local motor factor or halfrauds and get a set yourself, with that you can create the thread required.
