looks pretty nice mate. not sure about the black grill but you should go for the mk2 front end with black bonet, nice and tidy. possibly sit it a bit lower as well, but that depends if you want to keep the handling or have better looks

if any one is interested ive made a head way on this

well the car is now with me at my uni house so we can now get cracking, with a charge of the battery the engine fired in to life straight away, it had a misfire and was idling about 2krpm but apart from that it seemed alright, but then we saw a big(ish) pool of oil under the car, so we took the cam belt cover off and we could see oil coming out the head gasket, soooo we have taken the head off and is now ready to be skimmed on monday and ill also be inquiring about porting and polishing heres a few photos pretty s**t photos as it was dark when we finished but the main thing it work has started!
 

 

 


tomorrows jobs are to strip down the cylinder head, take the bottom half of the cambelt off with pulleys, tensioners etc and also have a crack at the water pump (fun) and then de-grease the block and get it all clean.

the plan of action then is to re-build the cylinder head with the 708's, re-fit head with new water pump and cambelt, bolt the bodies on, splice the tps sensor in to the loom, mount the IAT sensor somewhere, fit new throttle/clutch cable and then get it mapped!

oh also need to remove the loom and chop out all the wiring that i wont be using and tidy it up a bit


well i got bored this evening being in so me and tom started stripping my head, we didnt mean to, it just sort of happened lol first of all the inlet mani came off, then the pulleys, cambelt cover, cam ladders and then lastly removed the cams

just need to remove the valves and tappets tomorrow and shes ready to be skimmed

 

 


not a lot of progress today as i helped tom5190 do a gear box change

all I did today was remove the injectors and wiring from the old inlet and fit them to the throttle bodies just because im eager lol
 

 


bit more strippage today, i removed the alternator, aux belt, pulley, tensioner and all the brackets. As well as the cambelt, water pump, idler, tensioner and the engine mount. all will be cleaned up or replaced where applicable.
 

 

 



well i picked the head up yesterday from being skimmed, adn i dropped my cam ladders off at the local garage to have two snapped bolts extracted, but we made a start on refurbishing the head

first of all we put the head in to a stand and we removed the valves, springs, caps, collets and stem seals
 

and then we started grinding the valves and seats
 

 

tom having some well deserved dinner! (or tea, sorry tom)
 

once the valves were reground we fitted new stem seals
 

 

refitting the valves and springs
 

trying to carefully get the collets back in
 

then at 1am last night we finally had the head as complete as we could get it with all the valves put back in and the hydraulic lifters (which had been drained of oil)
 

Today i picked the cam ladders up from the garage so later on this evening we will fit the cams with new cam seals and bolt the cam ladders down, ready to re fit the head tomorrow :y:

well the cylinder head is bolted on and i put the bodies on loosely as i was eager to see what it all looked like, can i finally say i have a cammed, bodied engine? lol
 


couple more day time pics, obviously a lot of cleaning a tidying up needs to be done but you get the idea lol

Good thread mate, like you said gets bit boring looking at the same cars in different ways. Thinking of buying a saxo to track for 2012.

cheers mate, if your looking in to getting a track vts id buy a mk1 vts, strip as much as you feel comfortable stripping fitting some 206 gti brakes and some better springs, struts and bushes with some good tires and should have an awesome little car for the track and then if you like it then go for more power!

thanks for the comments guys Smile having some trouble atm as we cant get the bodies on with the engine mount on, and the same the other way round so im a bit stuck for ideas atm, someone on saxp told me he thinks he used to have the same manifold and some of the engine mount needs to be filed down

well cars almost there! jenveys are fitted properly, engine mount is on, cam covers back on, fitted radiator and hoses, just need to cable tie the iat sensor, wire up the tps and connect throttle cable, and then its just fit the cambelt and alternator and we should be able to start her up! so one more full day on it should see it ready to be mapped

best saxo I have ever seen is the one belonging to one of the guys from fast car magazine and it was one of their projects they do updates on each month... was lovely would love to own that!

Looks great mate I really wish I hadn't of sold my VTS far far far more fun to drive than my 180! and defo quicker, best of all returned something called MPG lol!

I totally agree with what you said too. I love reading about other car builds... reading the same thing all the time get's boring! No interest on P for my 180 tho, got alot on my first 180 back in 2004 but people now think they are s**te! (which they are not, I just can't afford to make mine handle better lol)

copied the last few updates from saxp Smile

well the cam belt is on also fitted the spark plugs and coil pack, so not a great amount of progress, but progress non-the-less! as we've been busy doing my 106 gti project

left sill to to do:-
alternator (inc brackets and belt)
throttle cable
tps and iat sensors

then its ready for its first start up!!! cant waitt

Been nearly 6 weeks since the last update, got back to my uni house earlier today, made some more progress me and tom got the alternator, brackets pulley and belt on
 

Slowly but surely getting there, tomorrow I'm doing an oil change, mounting the throtle cable bracket, fit outtercambelt cover, mount Iat sensor and splice the tps sensor then that's everything bar mapping!

Didn't get as much done as I wanted today but a fair chunk

Fitted the throttle cable backet
 

Wired the tps in
 

And cable tied the iat sensor up
 


no real update as im still waiting on my starter motor but i thought id pull the car out on the drive and give it a wash and polish as tom and my other mate were doing there's, i also re-tinted the rear lights as they were fading and i fitted the mk2 lights off my vtr on to it to see what it looked like and me and tom seem to think ti looks better, anyways im going to lacquer the lights to tomorrow to stop them fading and refit them and post up a pic and see which ones look better

been a busy boy today

firstly i lacquered my rear lights to stop them fading, fitted them and took a pic, what do people prefer the oem mk2 lights or the jewels?
 

 

 

also i decided to tint my head lights Smile and sprayed the ecu bracket black, love them just need to buy some smoked indicators, will put up a better pic tomorrow
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

also got some shiny new bolts for my coilpack, cam belt covers and ecu bracket
 

and my starter motor turned up, this will be fitted tomorrow and the battery will be charged, outer cambelt cover and ecu bracket will be fitted then ill connect the loom up and hopefully get it started!
 


well the car is in a state to be started up... well it turns over but not firing so im waiting for andy to get back to me so he can remotely connect to the predator and put the proper map on it and see whats going on, only real thing left to do is connect the throttle cable some how :s but not essential to start the car, then get the cams timed in properly and mapped, once that is done im buying a new loom for it and making it look nice and tidy and taking out any sensors that arent being used

anyway here are a few pics showing the front lights, rear lights and engine bay in better quality/brighter photos than the previous lot
 

 

 

 

 

 


well i picked some 106 leathers yesterday were a bit dirty, but good condition for the price of only £60!
 

bought some products today
 

clean and protected them and then fitted them, pics are a bit s**t makes everything look green and a dirty will get some better pics tomorrow Smile
 

 

 
 


another crap little update finally fitted my FDM sticker! and removed the saxway one

if you wanted some good masked lights for show try getting a cheap set of chav halos with clear lenses and put the clear ones on the masked originals that looks good if your spraying in the lights is upto a good standard

also put some insulation tape around the wires in the bay to tidy it up and protect the wires a bit more from moisture
