Hi all,
I recently bought a rear disc beam which is off a 2000 reg. Mine is a 2002 with drums. Mine is a multiplex but appears to have old style abs connectors (blue square) and on getting a drum off, it is a tooth wheel set up, the same as the disc beam. Ive counted the teeth and both have 48 with the same diameter ring. Does this mean I can just swap the beams and have no problems?
was gonna swap all hubs over but this would be nice if it would all work?

If the connectors and the ABS rings match there shouldn't be any problem swapping them over (well apart from all the normal hassle of swapping an axle that is!!! :P)

lol, yeah. Haynes manual never tells you about the unexpected things that go wrong does it?!!

Knowing the crap Haynes prints in the manuals these days I reckon it will say disconnect the battery before removing the rear axle

I didn't even bother with buying a Haynes for this car. When I were a lad they used to actually be quite good. Now it's all refer to dealer or specialist tool required or this is a typical wiring diagram for a car that is nothing like yours....... And rant over!!

Don't necessarily blame Haynes. Cars are now quite complex and you don't really think the big manufacturers want you servicing your own car do you so they won't be making it easy for Haynes.
Actually not even the government want you doing that. They are considering changing the law to make it impossible to buy spares unless you can demonstrate you have professional training to fit them.
So be aware that one day you will walk into a car parts shop and they won't be allowed to sell you a set of brake pads. I am sure there will be ways around it (ebay and imported parts?) but that is the way it's going.
And just wait until things like brake pads have their own chip in them that the car reads and won't run unless it is a genuine part!

Go find a 1980's era Citroen BX Haynes manual if you want to see how good & in depth they really used to be

I dont think it is so much that cars are more complex, I think its that people are not as practically minded anymore. Its easier for people to pay a garage. I was always bought up to use the money that garage bills would have been to buy the tools to do the job. Then you have them forever. Granted the electrical side of things have come on but with a 206 you are still talking about a very basic car. TU engines that are nearly 20 odd years old in design, same with suspension. there's still a hell of a lot for the home mechanic to do. I guess it just annoys me as the manuals used to be about a tenner and reasonable quality, now there nearly double that and rubbish!!

TU engine design is 26 years old later this year

Just think, the basic engine design that most of the youngsters on here have in the 206 is actually older then them

I know! Im only 5 years older!!! I remember when I had a 106 xsi TU and thought it was pretty impressive going getting 100bhp out of a 1.4 (1.3 in rallye) Infact Ive still got an old 1.4 xsi engine in my garden may see if anyone wants it on here as the head is a pretty good upgrade for a standard 1.4.
