Got oil leak from behind cambelt cover suspect head gasket, no mayo in oil yet?.......also cambelt needs changing as not been done as far as I'm aware.

I was going to attempt this myself with a few guides and a haynes manual. Done a few bits on cars so not a total novice.

After a bit of investigation I have compiled a list of parts to change:
- head gasket
- cambelt
- waterpump
- belt tensioner
- fan/alternator belt
- bit of courage to boldly go where i haven't yet been before

additional to this I will be changing oil and coolant (which I know I can do)
Was also going to give tech2 (shaun) in rotherham a call to cost up as a plan B

Any help/advice and pointers regards best brand of parts to use would be gratefully appreciated in what may turn out to be a long weekends work

I took out and refitted an engine and gearbox from a fiesta mk6 with just a haynes manual so i guess anythings possible, you dont learn if you don't try. You will hit a snag along the way though because with any big job you always do.

Are you sure the head gasket is going and its not something silly like the cylinder head gasket?

You'll also want to factor in the cost to skim the head.

go for it,mark your timing marks with white paint and the head bolts so you know what you have turned and dont move the pistons with the head off.
i lift the head off with the manifolds on,

Go for it, everyone has to start somewhere, if you don't do it then you will never learn. The only part you won't be able to do s skim the head, thats assuming it needs doing. Chances are you will get away with just the gasket. If it is going you will need to flush the system out and if there is lots of mayo then possibly off with the sump to clean it out.
206 1.4 LX ... its called Vera and is built for abuse, but needs a few things, including hoovering out

Took it to Shaun at tech 2 £300 for new head gasket/skim, timing belt/water pump replaced

Didn't think was too bad gonna give coolant system a flush and change oil + filter

Its not just the spares your gonna need, what about the tools you're gonna need too !! decent spanners, sockets, screwdrivers, torque wrench, rotary angle gauge, etc, If you aint got em give it to someone who has.

My water pump went so i took it to the garage for it to be replaced, at the same time they did the cam belt and they said it was proving difficult to work on...they were a bunch of monkey's though. At the same time if you take it to Peugeot they won't be cheap, it depends how confident you are.

Apparently if your car is over 8 years old you get some sort of discount, maybe worth investigating.

On the other hand, my Fiance used to do the basic things and then he decided that he was going to do an engine conversion. He managed it all by himself but said never again due to the frustraition and all the time it took.

Good luck hun whatever you decide. It is a difficult decision.

Just as an update.....car is noisy after the headgasket/timing belt and water pump work.

Read a few posts and people seem to relate it to auxiliary belt/tensioner/pulley roller....I'm hoping pricing up belt to change myself.

Just slightly worried as it definitely wasn't making the noise before, car appears to drive and pulls OK. Just wondered if anyone had similar issue.... Confused

Check your valve clearances ASAP and if adjusted, re-do it after 1 month.
