Hi all I have noticed over the last week my engine seems to be making a higher pitched than usual noise when revved. This usually happens over 2000 revs. The thing is im not even 100% sure its not allways been there Ive only had the car six months. Is this something I should get checked out? eg is my engine about to explode? lol. I have an 04 plate 1.4 petrol, thanks in advance.

Nah cheap as chips
You can keep driving, but if it snaps then you'll have no electrics.

I have the same issue but with a chat chat chat noise coming from the same area as well. Pulley? if so any ideas on which one is most common to go? Going to have a go taking the belt off to have a proper look......no looking forward to it. Just shut my eyes and start hitting may be my best course.

Took it to the garage today turns out it was the power steering pump. The Aux belt is looking a bit worse for wear any way so im getting it changed along with the cam belt. The radiator is leeking also due to corrosion so getting that replaced. Ive been quoted £385 for the new belts/pulleys pump and radiator.

Got the car back today and its still making the high pitched sound! Also the new cam belt seems really noisy. It now sounds like a tractor in low revs and a remote controll car in high. Cost me £430 I am not happy.

Took it back, the cam belt wasnt fitted correctly they sorted it and the high pitched noise was coming from an Aux belt pulley as well as the pas pump. All fixed now and sounds great.

Turns out my noise was the PAS pump too. Got the belt, tensioner and pump changed for £200 all in which wasn't too bad, or it would have been had I not alreaady spent 400 smackers on tyres this month! yawn!
