Hi

Got a 206 as my first car and took it in for a full service today as it hadn't had one for a while, the alternator belt needs replacing as it wants to come off, whatever connects to where you put the petrol in needs replacing as it has a leak, breaks have about 2k miles left in them and a cover is needed for one of the number plate lights on the rear.

Any idea how much this will cost? Also since the service when I put full or dipped beam on all the interior lights go really dim, almost as if they're off. What could be causing this and how can I sort it?

Cheers

if the alternator belt is loose, that could explain the lights problem.

numberplate light cover - scrappy, £0.
no idea about the fule problem.
new pads, shouldn't cost alot tbh, 20 quid a set give or take.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your post. The lights were fine before taking it in, he did adjust it though and it had a slight squeal when driving it for about 5 mins which then went (was the alt belt doing the squeal)

What about changing the discs as well? He said would be best to change them at the same time.

Ouch! Might ask if the discs really need changing... Seems more hassle than it's worth...

Thanks Lee

Yeah, but being a first time driver and early 20s its already cost a fortune.... How long would the new breaks last, roughly?

That depends on:

Quality of parts & how the brakes are used.

Thanks, also how easy is it to change a wing as the one currently has a crease in it and been told it would be cheaper to just replace it?

EDIT: and how can I test that the alarm works? I've tried locking it with me sat inside and jumping about and also trying to open the door from the outside when locked but nothing?

Wings are bolted on so easy to change - make sure you get the correct type ( non sports or sports ) as the sports type have a wider flared arch.

Lock the car with the remote fob, wait a minute then open the door using the key in the lock barrel.

Non plexed - big button then within 3 seconds small button to set deadlocks & arm alarm.

Multiplexed - press lock button once to set deadlocks & alarm.

Thanks MrBSI.

How do I know if it's non plexed or multi plexed? It's a 03 Look if that helps any. Also what's the difference between the 2? Sorry if these are idiotic questions.

Yours is multiplexed - 1 press on the remote lock button should arm the alarm & if you have them fitted set the deadlocks.

Are you sure your car actually has an alarm fitted?

Any ultrasonic sensors at the top of each A pillar?

It was sold as with an alarm, where would I find these pillars? Sorry, don't really know much about cars... Not really my interest other than transportation.
