I have a 1.4 S 2004 and am wondering if the dash digital oil level readings are just a general pain in the ass when it comes to giving an accurate reading or if there's actually something wrong??

No matter at what level or how long the car is left before checking the oil level, it always says something different, sometimes its half full sometimes three quarters and sometimes empty?? any ideas??

just performed a little more searching and found that someone had a wire hanging down to the front of their engine bay, whilst performing some needed maintenance today i also noticed a wire hanging down not doing anything but cant remember if it was just a dud plug that hooked onto the body work somewhere or if it is in fact the oil gauge wire/plug ?? but then again the digital reader wouldn't give any reading if this were the case so im still thinking somethings wrong or the digi readers just a tw*t lol

They're not that accurate mate, mine used to give the same readings as yours, full, empty, half or flashing. Its mostly a guide, the best way of checking is on the dipstick every week when you do your other checks !!!

Are you on about the one on the mileage display which comes on as your start the car if so I don't think mine has ever been accurate, Nothing like a 30 second physical check every week.

yeh it said full twice today so taking that as a good sign aswell as checking the stick, also my exhaust seems to be smoking more than usual is this a sign to maybe change the gaskets??
