Hi there,
I was just wondering if people service their cars at home. Having just been stung on the MOT front I was thinking of just investigating doing the service myself to save what little money I have left.

I'm a bit of a car novice so have no idea how often filters or glow plugs need changing etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Change the oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter. Check all other fluid levels such as coolant, brake fluid and screen wash Smile

Whats the mileage? You might want to think about the cambelt and waterpump too.

Thanks for the help!

Its 120k and a Y reg.

Ramigojag: the car really jolts when starting if I don't let the glowplugs warm up which is very different to other people's identical cars that I have been in.

Basically I will potentially have from Easter until Sep to work on my car and want to save money where possible.

Just change the glow plugs if you want buddy! You obviously want to so there's no point waiting for someone to say do it! It's your car, you're not going to do any harm by changing them! Unless you feck it up, of course! Razz

I need to service mine! You might find with oil changes that it's cheaper to take it somewhere, I know national tyres do and oil and filter change using Castrol Magnetec for £30 which would be more expensive to do at home, unless you have a cheap source of parts and fluids
