Mine is in the same place as the OP, though mine doesn't look that bad.
mainly cause whoever owned it before me lovingly covered it over with paint...thanks.

As said above the tailgate must have been replaced at some point.
Mine is a 53 and I don't have a spot of rust on the bodywork which is good considering its on 110k. Some slight corrosion spotting under the boot but all good apart from that.

Mines only a 2000 but no way as bad as that, just paint flake tbh
Saying that i do sort of keep her in ok-ish condition, only had four complete resprays....
