Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum, hoping someone can help me out. My daughters 206 1.4 Petrol GLX with A/C has a rather lumpy idle but once revved above 2000rpm is very sweet and drives really well with plenty of power. The plugs have just been replaced ( Bosch ) and the tappets adjusted. I have read there are 2 types of Timing belt, 104 or 108 teeth. If the wrong belt was fitted could this be the cause of the lumpy idle? If not, would appreciate any other suggestions as to the cure. Thanks

No, timing belt is not the cause here. Is the engine managment light on? Possible causes of lumpy idle - idle control valve, throttle position sensor, faulty MAF sensor, lamda sensor..... Or something else, lol. First off though i'd be looking at the idle control valve, there is a guide to cleaning it on this forum.

Hi Thanks for the reply, the engine management light is not on, we have already replaced the idle control valve as car had been stalling and the revs were all over the place, that has now been cured.

Before the tappets were correctly adjusted, it idled alot better, with only slight unevenness although with alot of tappet noise. Could the cam lobes on the camshaft be worn? I think I read somewhere that might be an issue? Is this a common fault with the 1.4 single cam engine?

If the cam lobes were worn the valves wouldn't be operating correctly and you'd have far worse running than a dodgy idle. Af what rpm is it idling at?

Daughter is away in car until afternoon, so dont know the exact rpm, only to say it sounds the normal rpm. The revs do not fluctuate at idle, they remain even, just this sound as if timing is out, like misfiring, accompanied by engine lumpiness, until revved over 2000 rpm when all is fine. Could the coil pack be causing the problem, is there any way of testing it? Thanks

Sounds like either a fueling issue, air leak or spark problem. Could very well be the plugs/coil pack. What make are they?
