Morning guys & Gals, my car has recently started ticking quite loudly, now i know that the 1.4hdi is a noisy engine generally but this is on top of the usual racket.
Not sure what it could be and don't understand diesel engines too well.
Any ideas what this could be or where to start looking.
Its a 2005 206 1.4hdi, 81k on clock.
Thanks in Advance

It's a bomb!
Does it make it when it's warm and cold or just cold or just warm?

When its warm mostly i notice it, I did have a warning light pop up on my dash briefly a few days ago, which was on for about 2 secs but i am not sure whether this is linked as it has been noiser longer than this.

Is it like a 'ping' or a 'tick'?
Could be valve tappets adjustment needed. (if it has them)

yeah could be the lifters mate they could be full of carbon and sticking, i would use a good engine flush and a decent oil see how you get on also check around your fuel injectors for any leaks might be one of them??

Crankshaft pulleys also make a loud ticking sound when there on the way out there also pretty common for failing on hdi's might want to check see if thats the problem.
