I've seen many Citroens which have a massive earth-strap for the bonnet,
yet no-other connection to it.

Anyone hazard a guess why?

Stops different charges building up between panels. Sparks radio interfeerence and corrosion prevention depending on the materials used. Often needed when alloy panels or hinges that dont conect the panel electricaly are used.
