Been working on my car toady doing various thing.

One thing I wanted to check was the drums, one of them is squeaking when breaking.

So I decided to: wire brush then get them off and lubricate inside and paint since I am at it.

The drives side came off file and it spins freely.

The right, well it took me 30-40mins to get the fu**ing thing off! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

The shoe seems to be holing this one.

So is there a way to loosen it so the hub spins??

This is my 1st time working on the drums I used the book to do it but I didn’t find if you can adjust.

Please help as I have the car jacked (indoors Laughing ) and want to finish it tomorrow.

Best bet would be a hub puller

No, I got the hub off, just took a long time.

Thing is when I put it back it's just as tight.

I wanna make it loose to go on so it will spin because I think that's where the squeak is coming from.

Have you slackened off the handbrake cable adjuster?

I'd put some new brake shoes in there, they're not expensive. They may well be the root cause of your squeaking and that would be a lot of work for nothing if they start squeaking again in no time

Do I have to turn the nut at the right hand side to slacken?

This is a handbrake cable adjuster.

Please buy a manual and read up before deciding to work on such an important item as brakes

the above picture is the cable adjuster, it will hardly make your handbrake better just use less clicks to pull up

there is a adjustable rod that goes between your 2 shoes and turn the nut one way to spread the shoes slightly which will adjust your handbrake up and better

For the side thats tight, first id make sure the wheel cylinder is ok, that the pistons push back into it and come out freely, because the drum shouldnt be tight to get off, this is the squeeky problem.
if it all seems ok then slacken off the adjuster on this side.

You need to slacken it in order to get maximum freeplay on the shoes to make it easy to get the drums off and back on again. That's the problem Jaeger was experiencing. The more worn the drums then the more slack you need because of the ridge created by wear. Forcing the drums off can do major damage to shoes and retaining springs when all that was needed was to back off handbrake cable adjuster

Once the drums are off then you can back off the self adjuster rod between the shoes if necessary. Once everything is reassembled and the self adjusters have been allowed to ratchet up again then you retighten the handbrake adjuster to get the right amount of handbrake movement
