Right, just a quick question...

I have just picked up a 2002 1.4 lx for the missis...

On driving it home i noticed the coolant temp gauge ranged from around 80-95...

Then when i got home, i popped the bonnet and had a feel at the top hose.. it was firm, still squeezable though not solid.

I then removed the header tank cap and there was a quick hiss..

I dont think the hiss is anything to worry about, and most likely the pressure in the system is just normal...

Im just paranoid with it being a new car and with regards the temp.. im used to driving my fmic'd hdi which runs at 75 degress all day long..

Does this all sound normal really?

I would more worry about 75 tbh

80 is norm, do remember the system is actually running at 100+ but doesnt boil due to being pressurised

If you really are worried, add to the coolant to clean the system with non bio washing powder, run till up to temp with the heater on full and then drain, refill with the correct 50 50 mix of water and anti freeze. Then finally bleed the system whilst the vehicle is running

Becareful though the water will obviously be hot

Thermostat on a TU3 is designed to open at 89 deg C.

Coolant temp gauge should sit around 90 deg C during normal operation.

Diesel engines do run COOLER & take longer to get up to operating temp then petrol ones Wink

80 is to cold & 95 is just starting to get near the cooling fan cutting in, sounds a bit like a lazy thermostat.

There only about £11 from a Peugeot / Citroen dealer & simple to change.
