How to install flashing L.E.D when car is locked?

Hi guys, Ive got myself one of those fake flashing L.E.D lights from eBay, that looks like there is a alarm installed in the car, as some crackhead people in my area decided it would be funny to try and break into my car, nothing feels better than catching them red handed and giving them all a good beating :P.

Anyway is it possible to wire it where the clock display is? I have seen the how to on installing the PPT30 display but I'm not sure which wire is a live and which one is negative, As i want the L.E.D turn on when the ignition is off, then the L.E.D turns off when i start the car..

i'm also looking to do this, on my gti, has it as no led but has the relevant sensors on a pillars and the button by handbrake for a alarm just never seen a flashing l.e.d

You can put it wherever you want - simply extend the wires...

To make it turn on as car turns off, and reverse, you need to wire the positive to a constant +12V source and the negative to a switched 12V source. At least for older, less sensitive cars - for safer option see towards the end.

As the switched 12V source is turned off, the wire will, via whatever load that is also connected to it, provide a sufficient (if the current flowing is small enough (as is typically the case with a blinky LED)) path to ground.

In the neighborhood of the central display, there's always the the radio plug.
Diagram that I have (may or might not apply to your car) says that on clock the constant +12V on pin 1, blue wire nr BH08M and switched +12V on pin 3, orange nr AH22M
On multifunction display it says constant on pin 18, blue BH08M and switched on pin 10, grey, AH22M.

Whether there is enough other load to provide sufficient load or not, or if the BSI might get upset possibly getting unexpected voltage backfed - I don't know.

Another option (with less risk to a touchy electrical system) would be to run the ground via a relay (single pole, dual throw) that activates when you turn the car on. ground from LED to terminal 87a, ground to terminal 30 and 85, switched +12V to 86.
Make sure the relay has a quenching diode, or wire one in yourself, (1N4001 should do, make sure to reverse bias it [cathode (stripe] to the +12 side of the coil and anode to ground).

Hazard switch should have the alarm led inside it, arm the alarm, big button then within 3 seconds little button on the remote fob.

just use the NC 4pin relay, then wire the switch circuit to the ignition,

Sets the deadlocks & arms the alarm system.
