If the 180s were at the price they are at now 4.5 years ago I would of had one. I paid 3k for my 138 and it had 48,000 on the clock 1 owner From new,you can get a decent 180 for around 2k nower days.

Plenty of anti 180 threads on this forum, most from people that have never actually had one.

But then upgrade the 138 suspension and you end up with a car handling better than a 180. THis is why to modify it makes sense to buy a 138 but to keep standard get the 180. |
This makes sense.
I guess it depends on how much cash you want to throw at it.
I 180 is a very good all round car out of the box and IMO the normal GTi needs work.

I do love the GTi180 interior, but when you look at the true power figures, thats where it's fall down is, when you consider it's competition.
Fiesta ST - 150bhp (the old one, because the new version is only 120 lol)
Clio 172/182 - 172-182
Corsa VXR - 189-202
Admittedly these are "quoted" figures, as well all know numbers on paper are nothing like actual "on the road numbers e.g. a GTi180 doesn't have 180bhp.
Having said that, power aside, I still would never buy an ST, the suspension is just too stiff
IMO, it comes to down personal preference, yeah I love my 206, especially now it's running 130bhp, but is the power worth the "french-ness" of the car e.g. shoddy wiring lol

the 172 & 182 etc make less power too Also there's only the 172's and s**t 182's that are in the same price range as the 180's.
The gearing in the 180 also makes it a faster car than the ST despite only around 10bhp difference.
Personally in the price range I think its the best all round car you can buy.

Is it only a GTi 180 you're looking at? or would you look at other cars in general? there's a lot out there, that in my opinion is better (not slating a 180 I always wanted one when I had the GTi) but having moved away from Pug to a VAG car for less money than you could get a 180 and in pretty much perfect condition and with lowish mileage for age, I wouldn't ever look back.

The ST is extremely overpriced considering it's power output, and like I said, I wouldn't ever buy an ST anyways.
I would rather have a 180 regardless of the power output, compared to any of the others I listed.
But TBH, I'd rather have a CRX or NSX than a 206 lol. retro ftw!

The 180 ace and will pass everything apart from a petrol station.
The gearbox however is made of chocolate!
