I've had my 206 for 5 weeks now. i decided to have a free check at the ATS by my work a week after getting it. and they found i needed 2 new drop links and a rear tyre. but my front pads and discs were badly worn also. so £142 quid later for the drop links and rear tyre. then i sorted the pads & discs myself (as i am a mechanic) but got my old boss to give it a oil & filter change and do the fuel filter as well. (i would have done them myself but didn't have the time with new job). then the day after the mini service i was coming back from a trip out and the car just cut out while i was moving and i had enough power to park up. 3 hours and a AA call out later it was found the Fuel relay switch under the ECU had blew. (it looks like someone had broke the holding bracket off it and just left it and when it rained it got into the relay and it just blew it) got the AA guy to tow it home then next day trawled scrapyards to find another one got one for a £5 (saving £35) now it runs like a new car it's 100 times better. i've changed the Air filter as well next up Cam Belt. then maybe look into some subtle mods

Surely you being a mechanic you'd of known the drop links were shot and tyre & brakes were crap before you brought it? Could of got the price down abit more.
I know what you mean tho it always seems you fix 1 problem and it causes anouther lol.

It's free!?! And if your busy and it doesn't cost, why not?? ... apart from getting ripped-off ...
And as for the cambelt ... easy on a diesel! (if 2.0 is similar to 1.4) |Change the water pump as well.

But you should have picked up drop links and a bald tyre on a test drive.

Most of the replies are saying about why being a mechanic i had a free check at ATS instead of doing it myself. thing is time i work 8-5 mon-fri and 8-12 sat so the last thing i want to do is climb under cars after a busy day at work.
Also the drop links sounded fine on test drive the rear tyre was low (as it still had tread) but i thought it was just ok on visual inspection when i checked tyres.
