Hi, i have a 12 yr old 206 GTI and runs fairly good, i just wondered if anyone out there has performance modded an old GTi and is there much to be had out of the old engine ?

I heard the old 138 engines are pretty much bulletproof as its a simple design is that true as mines on 95k ?

I would rather mod my old GTi as parts are cheap to replace and its a good car !!

Ask the insurance first tell them of what you are doing.

No.
This 206 IS going on a trackday despite it's every effort to stay at home in the garage!

Seabook, thoose engines are f*****g beautiful

Some of the best explosions ive seen in a long time..... (side note, ignition timing and high compression is my 2p)

To the OP, ive spent well over 5k on a 1.4 GLX, will i ever get that back no

But i enjoy it

what do you mean by high compression?

as far as i know they use stock piston Confused

yes, could be ignition timing...as i suspect the tuner wasn't have enough experience to deal with those cams.....

Sorry for being short but heres it in a little longer....

With the first engine the spark plug heat range will be a very cool plug as lets face it 11.1 aint to be shunned at, and this will create some serious heat. But when you at more air into an already tight space and slightly altering the timing of the engine with the upgraded camshafts, you are destined for trouble if you havent researched into the correct spark plug

You run a too hot plug it will pre ignite and well you can see whats happened

i have spend a few k on the engine and only seen 13bhp but for that money and a bit more you could get throttle bodies giving about 180 bhp, if you do your research and pick the mods right it can be worthwhile unless you want looks go and bodykit all at once it will cost a fortune

few subtle mods will cost about 1 k and keep you happy with the car for a few more years
as for millage and age well i got the same age and 72k miles and i go on the track yearly without any problems, i have seen cars over 130k miles on the origional headgaskett so plenty of life as yet

also second hand parts are alot cheaper now
