My wife has a 206, 1.4 petrol. After driving for over a hundred miles (a journey done regularly) the car suddenly started juddering and losing power. The AA man couldn't fix it and it has been in the Peugeot dealer garage all day today, they do not know what is wrong.
Syptoms are:
Starts fine, idles fine, no warning lights. When pressing the accelerator and it gets over 2k revs it splutters and loses power.
The garage want to replace the ECU as their systems are showing no fault and they think replacing the ECU will then show the fault.
Any help greatly appreciated. Plus you will have helped solve a problem the chief mechanic of a dealership cannot!!

First things first, check the spark plugs aint NGK, if they are bin them & fit Bosch ones.
To be fair a Peugeot main dealer most likely doesnt work on many 206 these days.

Thanks, I'm phoning the garage tomorrow and it's the 1st question I'll ask. Although if a garage hasn't checked that 1st then I'm going to move garages!!
Any other things I should check with them?

Im shocked a Peugeot main dealer is struggling to fix a 206 with a running fault
What year of 206 is it as later cars have a electronic fly by wire throttle where earlier cars have a old fashioned mechanical throttle cable set up.
Petrol 8 valve or the 16 valve as the 1.4 came in both.
Manual or auto gearbox?
Very rare for the ecu to go wrong, I take it they have cleaned all the silicone grease out of the ecu connector plugs? that was a slight design c**k up by PSA Peugeot / Citroen

Many thanks. I don't know much about cars so I'll ask the garage and see if they are taking the mick out of me.
It's a 2004 car so probably a mechanical cable which I'll make sure they check.
I'm not going down the road of getting a new ECU fitted though, very expensive just to see if it solves the problem!!

Could be coil pack - if its running the original Sagem unit then it needs binning for a Bouricord coil.
Id be amazed if a 206 built back in 2004 is still running on the original Sagem coil pack
2004 car could be either the 8 valve or the 16 valve version of the 1.4 lump.

Many thanks for your help.
I have spoken to the garage and they had conducted a compression test, fuel test and coil test. All were fine.
They have replaced the speed sensor and it seems to have fixed the problem.....
I checked with them about the coil and they said it passed their test and had been recently serviced.
Fingers crossed that it will pass a second road test this afternoon.

i had this fault on my 1.4 206.. my crank sensor (bolted to the gearbox) failed as my thermostat housing was leaking coolant into the sensor plug.. changed termostat and sensor and all is fine..
