car started being a pain the a**e today 1st mechanical problem i have had since owning the car!

anyway longstory short, car started driving lumpy on the motorway, drives like i put water in my fuel tank or something? took to garage on way home they took the coilpack off did some test put it back on then car was fine? they said could have just been dirt? drove home soon as i left the a road and slowed down car statred driving lumpy again?

where shall i start?

the only thing i have done before this started was use premium unleaded

Which engine have you got?

Have you used that petrol station before for fuel?

Did the garage put a code reader on to see if there were any codes stored or pending?

The obvious question, which brand of spark plugs have you got in?

Obv best to change plugs first as its cheapest.

Get some carb cleaner and check the throttle. Get some circuit cleaner and clean the MAF.

yes always use it, bp

not sure never removed or changed them

no did not check for codes as the car ran fine soon as the coilpack was removed then re fitted

Doesn't mean it's fine, can still spark but may not be good enough to ignite correctly - surprised a garage actually thought this.

Had the exact same problem with mine, ended up being the coilpack even though it seemed ok at first.

For a new coil pack?

Last time I looked just over £100 from pug, but should be a lot less from motor factors

Second hand ones go for only £10 - £20


But get it code read first, will be cheaper than randomly buying parts

I had the same problem, i tested the coil pack with 4 good plugs and they are sparked as they should.

I changed the plugs for bosch +4's (i think)

Then i changed the coil pack, £30 from my motor factors, and all is firing nicely again. I just need to change the idle control valve now as i think it is sticking and causing an eratic idle.

A Bougicorde coil from GSF is £78 with free postage eBay. I think it's the same price on their site too.

And Bosch Super 4 plugs are the best for pugs.

I have a similar problem and no faults codes could be found on 2 seperate attempts.

what steps have you taken to fix it?

all i have to do is unplug the conector going to the coilpack, put it back in and its fine?
