That's the point. If it is a new style clutch cable then the cable should be replaced at the same time as a clutch change. It's a one time fit item and can't be manually reset.
Older style cables you could do all sorts of stuff to but not the new ones

Right, i'll try the above. Thanks for that. I doubt the garage replaced the clutch cable.
And to check for the clutch dragging, presumably all I need to do is jack up the front, car in gear, clutch down with engine running... The wheels should not be moving at all, correct? Is that a fair test would you say?

Bit tricky to prove or disprove a slightly dragging clutch. Your method above won't prove much as there is often enough oil drag to make the wheels rotate even when the clutch is pressed.
If the forced adjustment doesn't work take it back. To be honest unless you have been through deep water a visual check of the cable should be enough to see if it is shiny and new or if it is dirty and old.

If the clutch is dragging then usually reverse gear will be a bit spectacular with it either not wanting to go in or it clunks into gear (more than usual, ha!) with the car immediately trying to move
If you haven't got a problem with reverse selection then it's most likely not clutch dragging and will be more of actual gear selection so gearbox oil type or linkages as others have said

I had a similar problem, just all of a sudden i couldnt select any gears but when i turned the car off then I was able to select any gear, i tried starting the car with 1st gear selected while clutch was pressed to see if car jumped forward but it didnt which is a good sign. Next while the car was switched off i done that clutch force trick mentioned earlier where you press the clutch in and slide your foot sideways off so pedal flys back up which to my amazement worked thank god!

From My experiance with the other halfs car, she has a 14 lx. She took it in to a local guy near her parents after the clutch collapsed and it came back with the same probably. I gave it to my Bro nd he said it was the link arms damaged because the guys swilvelled the box out of the way and didnt disconnect the arms and bent them a bit. He said he s had guys at his place do the same thing and they learn very quckly not to do it again. I recon a new set of arms will sort it.
