On previous MOTs my peugeot 206 1.1l had an advisory for noise from the engine.. and the garage told me its to do with the water pump... which may mean replacing the cam belt at the same time... which would be costly.. (at least at a garage)...

is it completely necessary to replace the cam belt with the water pump.. and is it possible / a hard job to do the pump by itself?

Bearing in mind my car's an 05 reg and only has 34,000 on the clock.

The cambelt should be done every five years or 50,000 miles, yours is way over due and your lucky it hasn't snapped. Also the cambelt has to be removed to remove the pump, that's why most people do them both at the same time, where abouts are you in the uk?

There is no logic for not fitting the cambelt, it has to come off anyway so for the price you may as well just fit another one on

Unless you know 100% it's been done within the last year, it should be done. + If yours has never been changed it NEEDS to be done now.

I'm just round the corner from morden but moving in two weeks, ring around a few places or contact kris b. He done my axle replacement and was very good. He's about a 40 minute drive but I would highly recommend him.

Trust us, it needs doing it would crazy to strip it down and not fit a new belt when you are just going to have to pay another few hundred £££ to do it all over again later in the year hoping it doesn't snap.

Last time I checked they were less than £40

Ok then, I had a quote from my garage for the pump & belt and a few hours later around £400 (poss more or less it was only a guestimate) ... is this an average price in your view or more/less than would be expected for it?

Kris b should do it for around £200, depending on engine it might be a bit less!

brand new peugeot orig timing kit HERE ( £45.99 ) ,genuine water pump HERE ( £43.32 ) and at most 2-3 hours labour to fit and that's if they stop for dinner Wink

its allways cheaper to replace the pump and belt kit rather than the engine / head Wink

yours needs done sooner the better if you can hear it rattleing

Had the water pump done (& cam) although it had been replaced before.. (with a crappy part apparently) & that solved the noise ... Krisb did it for £170... cheers for the recommendation! ... I'd recommend him to anyone here too!
