Never heard of any common engine complaints in the Minis... |
Wasn't there a recall for something causing engine fires?

That was for the electric water pump that cools the turbo.

Isn't there uprated parts avalible for the timing now ? Mines been fine so far touch wood, can't comment on the piston ring failure issue with the ds . |

Its by far the absolute worst engine ever possibley built by PSA

Ive never came across one, or really heard of it, but s**t not pointless
I can understand the EW slightly but its a bit ahead of their time, as HPI didnt really enter the petrol PSA market till the EP6DT to assist atomistation of the fuel.
I would think BMW introduced it but ive heard from other techs at the headquarters we actually designed the cylinder head
Best engine we made, TU or XU by far. But the new 1.0 and 1.2 engines intrest me with the oil lubricated cambelt

HPI had a Siemens high pressure direct injection petrol system running between 30 & 100 bar fuel pressure.
It was problematic, not many people bought one & it was killed of.

It took PSA till 1994 to get rid of the designed in rattle on the 8 valve petrol XU lumps
The pre 94 XU petrol 8 valve lumps if it stopped rattling from the top end you knew something was wrong with it

The first ever TU's did, piston slapping valves
But thats when the days you could smoke next to someone draining petrol and submerge appretinces in oil

I've seen the aftermarth of a mechanic doing just that as a private job while draining a misfueled Vectra diesel hire car via the access panel under the rear seat.
Car was a total loss
