I've been having a few cold start and idle issues (no codes), so thought I'd clean the MAP sensor as advised in a number of posts. I have a 02 206 GTi 136hp and I saw a sensor which had a small yellow bubble in the middle of it somewhere else on the site.
Problem is I pulled the sensor out this morning to clean it and there seemed to be no 'bubble' in it at all??
Do different engines have different MAP's in them? Has mine fallen out? 
And if indeed my MAP doesn't have a bubble, how do I clean it effectively?

you can buy cleaner from most motor stores, and yes i think yours has fell out, are you sure its not just covered in dirt?

I'm positive there was nothing there- there was nothing in the casing. I put the sensor back in and checked there was nothing in the intake before I started it- it was a long crank but still started and run normally, and still didn't have a fault pop up so I'm totally confused!
It's in for a service on Thursday so we'll see

The yellow bubble is the thermistor (air intake temp sensor) which is built into the MAP sensor on some models.
Your's might well have it sepperate on the throttle body itself.
Check SB to find-out for sure.

Thanks V9977- makes me feel a little less nervous. In my TB there is a seperate IAT sensor on the bottom, so you may be right. After all this cold start issues, I remember reading your issue that was solved by a software upgrade, so I might try that too.
My concern was that it had fallen off at sometime and was in the engine!
On SB its a 1920IN so maybe someone can confirm?

If there is a sepperate sensor on the intake body (and part number in SB) then MAP will not have yellow bead so it's fine.
Software issue was for a specific version of ECU program on a TU3A car.
Doubt it will make any difference on yours but you could always try.

OK, thanks for the feedback. My cold start bet is on a dodgy pressure regulator (in the pump I believe) or a leaking injector. Long crank, like it's missing fuel to fire- not my first pug and wont be my last

So hang on, if indeed I have a seperate IAT to the MAP sensor, how do you clean your MAP? Would a dodgy IAT exhibit the same symptoms as a dodgy MAP? Slightly rough idle, rougher idle when cold, long crank? Obviously there area heap more things that can cause this, but now I'm curious

Have you checked fuel pressure from the pump?
Is engine temp sensor definately OK?
Diagnostic equipment and live data would help even if there are no trouble codes.
You should be able to discern if the temp sensors are working properly quite quickly, and a cheap generic tool would do.

Getting her scanned on Thursday, which may hopefully show something. Over the last week or so, after I crank and it starts, the revs remain on 1,000, when it has usually gone to 1200 on a cold start. Which is why I have bought a CTS as a matter of course. Not buying anything else until the pressure has been checked with the Schrader valve overnight later this week.
Fingers crossed the problem can be found!

IAT fault rarely lead to problem.
most likely it will lead to minimum loss of power.

faulty map sensor only showed up on Peugeot's equipment when mine was faulty, all the other garages i went to 1st didnt show anything.

So had her serviced last week, including a new Coolant Sensor, fuel filter and lower engine mount (which is awesome). I started it with no problems picking it up on Friday night, started strong on saturday, sunday and monday mornings, but as of Monday night the hesitant start happened again.
The mechanic said that whilst he replaced the filter, it seemed the fuel pressure was low but didn't check the pressure as such.
Interesting, when I started it tonight, it briefly flashed up a Anti Pollution Fault when cranking for the last second, although it disappeared right when it fired.
I don;t have access to a PP2000, and the mechanic only has a generic fault finder, which has previously shown up no faults.
The EML is never on, and after it fires, always runs OK... WTF? 
Has anyone ever seen or heard of this fault *only when cranking*?

No fault code, feels like there's no fuel going in when trying to start, unreliable starting then everything is fine as if nothing has happened sounds like a typical crank sensor fault

That seems to be the exact symptoms, and I beleive this sensor is under the battery tray, near the bell housing on the top.
I have read about symptoms, and these include cutting out. My issue is only when starting, and only when cold and maybe rough idle just after it starts. Warm starts are alright and no cutting out.
Would this still point to a crank sensor?
