It turns on and radio everything comes on. But it just wont up fire up. there's also a strong smell of petrol whilst it tries fire up. Any ideas?.

My car: 206 xs, 1999, 89k miles, 1.6 engine.

Could be 1001 things, check you got a spark first then go from there

What was the last thing you did to the car before it stopped starting or has it just decided to pack up by itself overnight?

fuel hose hasn't popped off the rail has it? had that once while driving a petrol...

it just happened over night. smelled a bit last night when I parked, i thought it was a different car tho.

unlucky, i have to get the bus most days so I know how you feel.

pretty sure that the fuel rail is on the back of the engine, though it won't be hard to see if there's petrol everywhere...

its raining here and the weathers s**te. its not got puddle of rainbow juice sitting bout it so if it is leaking its not leaking really badly.

Petrol smell is only there when the car is tryin to fire up

It might smell of fuel because the pump is dumping a bit into the cylinder but as its not being burnt as normal, its just sitting there, may even flood the engine eventually if there's not spark. Try plug change first, then look at coil pack and battery (may be that the charge is enough for radio but not enough for first fire).

If none of that works, get a diag done to see if there is a major underlying fault.

Got mine fixed yesterday. It finally stopped raining and the girlfriends dad popped round whilst i was working. Hada jump lead the car then he went to accelerate nd herd a fizzing noise looked under tge car and the feul line had popped out pishing feul everywere. Got it all connected up properly wich is gd. Cheers for the help anyways
