Hey all.

Noticed the Sump gasket on the 1.4HDI is leaking so rang Peugeot to order a new one and they claim that its not a gasket its just a friction fit.

Would of thought there was some sort of sealant helping to keep the oil in? I haven't taken it off yet to investigate what was originally used.

Anyone had to take the sump off and refit any suggestions on using a sealant or not?

What's your reg/chassis and I'll double check for you
Get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook.

Just had a look and there's no gasket or washer type there, in our workshop they use RTV sealant. One technician said take it off, give it a thorough thorough thorough clean then some RTv and you'll be away. Not some cheap bathroom sealant that won't withstand 100 degrees+
Get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook.

you shouldn't need any sealant as the sump aren't under pressure....

if it tell you dry fit i would do the same.

hmmm, will get it off and try to see what was used originally. Also I keep hearing/reading about the turbos blowing on the 1.6HDi, and that they have a filter in the block for the turbo feed that chokes and causes it.

Do the 1.4HDi have that filter....? aiming to drop the sump the same time as I fit my decat pipe and then obviously I could whip the turbo oil feed out of the block (as its in behind the downpipe) just don't know what to expect when that feed is removed.

I recently removed the sump on my 2002 1.4 HDi and it definitely has some sealant on there, it was a pig to get off (both the sump and the old sealant) i had to use a hammer and dolly to get the mating surface of the sump square again. Eurocarparts sell a tube of grey gasket sealant, if you put your reg no in and search for sump gasket it will come up with the part you need. To be honest i would double check that the oil isn't running down from somewhere else first as inside my sump and the oil pick up strainer were fine and it really is a job to find somewhere to get a lever in without damaging the alloy block face or bending the sump, it was really well stuck on! I think the filter you are thinking of is in the bottom banjo of the metal turbo oil feed pipe, again mine was clear but i have religiously changed my oil and used a genuine paper filter every 6 to 8000 miles (101,000 miles so far had the car from new).
