Sorry if this has been covered, but how much is acceptable? I remember my old GTI using a fair bit but I can't remember how much. I haven't measured this properly but I think I've used about 1 litre in just over 3k.
Car either gets used on the two mile drive to work, or hundreds of miles on the motorway in one go for football.

Any opinions?

Mine used a bit more than that.
What oil are you putting in?

- Sinature removed due to size.
Please feel free to upload one of the correct dimensions.

Infact scrap that, about half that.

I bought 5 litres to do the change. Used 4.5 on the change and used the rest over the year to top it up. Did about 8k in the year.

what happens if you let the car run with low oil? would the temperature gauge show an increase in engine temperature?

It will probably start to knock rattle if it gets to low. Oil lubricates, water cools.
