Just had a thought. The car they came from was a written off GTI. Middle engine front end damage. Could it be flat spots on the tyres from the braking during the crash?

You'd feel flat spots more than anything...I imagine it must be the tyres or the tyres have worn unevenly - possibly. Maybe it's normal and the wider tyres just make more noise.

Solved it!! Front left was unevenly worn. Swapped with the back no rumble!!
