my gti180 has clutch judder, its only got 47.000 miles on it. it seems to be getting worse, is it worth getting a new flywheel too?
next there seems to be a slight knocking sound for the passinger side wheel, the tracking is fine what could this be?
could anyone tell me more about this BSI update? more info on it? what it does? how much it will cost me to get it done? if i can still get it done?

yes to the flywheel at least get it skimmed mate.
not sure on the knocking sorry
bsi update does it need one then ??? if its runing fine then i would just leave it alone why spend cash unless you have too.

i want to spend the cash getting the car running sound as possible, what is the bsi update and what does it do? the car in my mind is so slow, spoke to a local 180 and he says his was a lot quicker. plus i want folding mirrors when i lock it ect. is it worth a lightened flywheel? the one on ebay for pug1off?

the lightend flywheel will just make it rev a bit quicker but imh alot of cash for little if any gain. the bsi update is just to iron out a few bugs in the softwhere i beleave but could be wrong.
i have 2 180's and one is quicker than the other but i think one has had a remap in the past.

Only had the clutch changed without the flywheel with no problems, the knocking you might want to get the wishbone/ball joint/arms checked. BSI update will fix flaws/glitches and update the electrics. All dealers charge different, £50-£200.

How much would I be looking at for a new fly wheel, how much were u to get it fitted? Know can get a Valeo or whatever u spell it like clutch from eBay for 109 plus postage, I need the car for work I would need the clutch done in a day, so no time for it to go away and get skimmed. How long does the update take to get done? And is it worth it? To save problems later down the line

The bsi update is more of a reset than an update...its there to reconfigure the cars settings when there's a power disconnection or some upset to the system..
.it would be obvious if your car needed it doing as it would be behaving erraticaly in its electrical circuits...i.e.ligjts flashing when doors shut.horn sounding when wipers are put on.hazards on and off when radio is on...and more strange behaviour from the cars electrics including not starting
so its serious but very easily diagnosed so u would know if one was needed...these updates are quite complicated to do right but u can do it yourself at a cost of nothing...just look on here for bsi soft reboot in the how to forum.......
and now ive just wtitten that last bit im hoping it is the teboot your enquiring about???it sounds the same from peoples posts...

180's have a weak throwout bearing which wears out even when the clutch is not too bad. It could be that. My 180 had this as well, but I changed the clutch anyway. I doubt you would need a new flywheel. A skim should be fine (check all of this with an expert first).

If your garage is used to doing skim jobs they will likely have a same day or 24hour service with there local metal services company as its not a long job to do...you will likely get it back the next evening if they get it on the mornin and they might supply a loaner car while there busy with yours but you will need an appointment and they will close down for christmas week probably...so bear that in mind...
And the knocking sounds like the bearings on the hub/the cv joint(easily identified by turning full lock and slowly rolling the wheel if its dry of grease or shot it will make a clickylnocking sound that speeds up the faster u roll...
or...one of the steering bearings or susspension bearings all located behind the wheel hub area and identified by jacking up well and taking wheel off and havin a good look.
..
P.S.they never used to change the flywheel with the clutch in the past...usualy just the clutch and kit and bearing was plenty so if there is no obvious faults with the flywheel when they get it off i would just leave it and save a few quid...
im sure flywheels and associated parts havent been undeveloped over the years. Infact they will be better and developed over time making them better than ever u would think...but its your motor...good luck...

A BSI update is an update, it will change certain sensor characteristics, as well as engine performance etc. A reboot is just that. You can not do an update yourself.
Also a faulty clutch over time will warp the flywheel, its a well known fact that 180's suffer from clutch judder.

if the banging noise comes when your just driving, check your drop links and driveshaft/driveshaft bearings.
jus jack the car up and spin the wheel and if you hearing it clicking it could be your driveshaft? and sometimes you can see the bearings hop a little bit.
plus drop links make a banging noise when theyr on there way out.
and if your gona change the clutch id do the flywheel just to be safe as they can warp, and for that price just go for the lightened flywheel, it'd be worth it.
