I have a Peugeot 206 Verve (2006).

Yesterday I noticed an electronic high-pitched beeping noise coming from the engine bay of my 206. The noise is reminiscent of a ZX Spectrum loading a game, or perhaps an old modem connecting to the Internet.

vimeo.com/57306988

The sound is a continuous tone electronic beeping sound that crackles or changes tone intermittently.

I can hear the sound when I turn the ignition to the "powered" position but the engine is not running. When I turn the key back to the "off" position the sound continues for about 3-4 seconds before stopping, so presumably it's electrical related.

There are no engine management lights or warnings on my dashboard.

If I start the engine I am unable to tell if the sound is still there because the sound of the engine drowns it out. I can hear the sound when the bonnet is down but I have to strain to hear it.

I tried to listen to see where the sound is coming from and I think it is coming from the vicinity of what I believe to be the throttle housing, shown as numbers 1, 2 and 3 in this diagram:

www.peugeot206cc.co.uk...htedk3.htm

This is also the area where various engine management sensor wiring connectors are connected. It is in the middle of the engine nearest to the windscreen.

Has anyone come across this before. I searched the forum but couldn't find anything related. Any advice is appreciated.

You sure your not describing the fuel pump priming?

Thanks for all your responses.

My car has a manual gearbox.

I guess it could be something starting or priming before I start the engine but I think it goes on too long to be that. The beeping sound will go for several minutes. I've not had the patience to sit and wait to see if it stops.

I thought it might be a symptom of a possible fault, so wanted to try to identify it before it happens.

Could do with putting a video up with sound and then someone might be able to help pin point the noise.

It's the stepper motor of the idle control valve.

They can be quite cocky at times but work just fine.
Mine sounds like a UFO.

The sound is definitely coming from the throttle body. The unit making the sound is labelled EGAST02.

V9977, sounds like you're right about it being the stepper motor. I've found similar posts on some other non-Peugeot sites suggesting the same.

I've uploaded a video - you're in for a treat Wink lol

vimeo.com/57306988

It was quite a bit louder today than previous times I checked, possibly due to the weather being colder? Seems to be perfectly normal according to some of the sites I read. My idle engine speed is fine and engine revs/power seem to be normal.

Any thoughts?

Thanks to all who have replied.

Yours is electric throttle body (later version) so the stepper controls the entire throttle butterfly.
There is no ICV, instead a much bigger higher-spec stepper is used to move the throttle pane according to
the electronic accelerator pedal (drive by wire).

I have no sound here at the moment but if it sounds like an imperial drone, it's fine.

Hi nyquist
I have just joined this forum because I have discovered the exact sdame noise coming from my electric throttle.
My car is a 1.4 2007 model. My car runs fine it just makes that noise before you start the engine but have the ignition turned on.
Did you ever get a solution to the noise or did you learn to live with it.
Thanks in advance
