Got a problem with the 206 at the moment. Every now and again the dials on the instrument cluster die and they come back on a couple of seconds later. I thought it may have been the power to the cluster initially but all the lights are still lighting it up. I thought it was an earthing issue so took the battery out cleaned the connection the chassis. I couldn't undo the one on the gearbox but from the look it was clean where as the chassis one was completely caked including the contacts. Soft booted it back up.
At lunchtime I had a new issue. When the dials died brake fault and airbag fault warnings came up. All issues go when restarted. Brakes [anti-lock] seems to work so not sure what the issue is.
Going to get it plugged in but can't get it done for a few days. Hopefully that will help.
Anyone got any suggestions?

An electrical fault can cause the ABS and airbag faults. Sounds like faulty dials.

Just been speaking to the old man. He's wondering if it could be a dodgy battery cell. He seems to remember something similar in one of his tractors. Other than dodgy starting when very cold I've not really had any issues

this has just happened to mine this afternoon , airbag light on , no speedo no rev counter no heater blower , but lights indicators and brake lights ok
i,m looking to find what the cause is ??

I don't know yet but going to visit Kwik Fit or somewhere tomorrow get my battery tested. It was only a cheap one so could be the problem. What's even wierder is that I've read a few recent topics on this in various places.

No obvious signs still, booked it into the garage just now as all the electrics to the dash died and blew my headlight bulbs. Took ages to come back alive too so now it's pretty dangerous. Spoke to the guy and he said that the earth strap is first port of call but he has also recently had a Renault Megane in with similar problems. Turned out it was the bottom of the main fuse box that had rusted and was interrupting the live feed. He's going to book it into an auto electrician in case he can't see anything obvious.

Had a look at Haynes tonight and realised that the lights and instrument panel both share more than one earth point. Cleaned the gearbox and main chassis ones but only realised that the points behind the headlights are relevant. Both were a bit s***ty, one covered in road muck and the other had surface rust. If one earth point on a circuit is compromised can this have an affect on a circuit if there are multiple earths?

I suppose it might make a difference. No harm in cleaning it up. We're the headlights giving you any problems?

Cleaned up but they both blew tonight. Third time to be replaced in 2 months although its happened twice today.

Yes both blew at same time. Back from garage/auto-electricians for now. Mechanic said that they found a number of faults which they thought would fix it. Apparently when they drive it back the cluster was still a little sporadic. Seemed fine on the way home so wondering if its a cold start thing. Back in on Thursday so will see

Difficult to diagnose really, would need your electrical system checked I suppose.

had mine in the garage today to trace the faults they said its the bsi thats at fault and only peugeot can replace them ?
looking at a big bill so dont know if im going to sort it or get rid of the heap of french s...t
